Chris Kavanagh - Spurs v West Ham

Had the pleasure of watching the full game tonight.
Good game and excellently officiated by Chris and the team. They
can go home proud of their performances. Spot on decision
reference the penalty appeal in the second half, hit the body
and then arm. Without VAR, big pressure and a correct call.
Great spot by Rob Jones in the first half also which led to a
yellow card after a pull back.

Commentators were full of praise for the pull back incident,
they said it was not in the view of the ref or AR. Great team
work. Right call on the pen shout at 61 - no way a pen.
Enjoyable game enhanced by a decent ref performance.

It’s always nice to see when the 4th official gets specifically
praised. Seldom are the verbal communications that result in
correct decisions and sanctions recognised (for fairly obvious
reasons), so always good to see them when they are recognised.

Enjoyed the game.
Well officiated, nice to see the fourth official praised for his
involvement.
What was a surprise to me however was,
Rob jones 4th official after refereeing another qf last night,
luckily kavanagh didnt pull up lame early on.
Kavanagh var on spurs previous game then referee tonight on
their next.
Dan cook on the line for two consecutive spurs games all be it
ar2 last sun and ar1 tonight so a slightly different
Green path to tread on.
I know we are in covid times and there are different
competitions involved but surely we have more officials
Available or should it be that is just very bad appointing,
maybe right arm and left not talking.

I only saw the highlights but on the 2nd Spurs goal was the
player who was directly in front of the goalkeeper and who
jumped over the ball in an offside position? Obviously no VAR to
check it. He could have been played on by a defender but they
didn't show a cross field angle on the replay.

With all of the quarter finals at Premier League grounds why was
VAR not used?

I was only able to watch the first half and thoroughly enjoyable
it was. However I did think that Chris Kavanagh missed
stonewall yellow cards in the early stages for reckless tackles
by Manuel Lanzini and Declan Rice. As far as the intervention
by Rob Jones was concerned, he was spot on but I was a bit
mystified by the commentators comment that it was out of the
view of the assistants. The nearside assistant would have had
the same view as the 4O!

That was exactly my thought in real time. If the Spurs attacker
is offside, then then the goal shouldn't have stood. The
attacker jumps over the ball, and is within a couple of feet of
both the scorer and the goalkeeper. Clearly very much in the
goalkeeper's vision, and impacting.
From the stills, I'd say the attacker is in an offside position,
though it's marginal.

Watching it live last night and watching on You Tube just now,
if he is offside when the shot is made it is by a toe nail at
most and the AR is in line, however, no doubt VAR would have
watched it 20 times and found some reason to disallow the goal.
The same would have happened to Sunderland's goal the night
before at Arsenal because there was about a toe nail in that one
as well.

Either way it looks a very marginal offside or onside call with
the last WHU defender in the second screen shot but you really
need an exact cross field angle on this not one looking down
from behind play. As for Ashington46's toenails isn't that what
VAR should be there for? [emoji1] No doubt they'd have claimed
he wasn't interfering with the goalkeeper's vision.
