I think he could have got away without a caution personally.
But VAR can't get involved in that and the caution can only be
revoked if the penalty is overturned.

As the YC wasn't for DOGSO with a deliberate attempt to play the
ball, then presumably it could only be for what Taylor
considered a reckless challenge, as per Readingfan's post
quoting Dale Johnson. Jason Burt in the Telegraph wrote that if
the first YC was questionable, the second one was more so.
What constitutes a reckless challenge can be very subjective and
I suspect many referees, if there was any room for manoeuvre,
would tend to give the offender the benefit of the doubt if it
meant a second YC. So I guess the question is, was the tackle
clearly reckless?

I don’t have a dog in this fight, but from the limited
highlights I saw I personally thought the penalty award was
puzzling. Not convinced at all.

Sadly, in these modern times of 'elite football' it would seem
that every tackle could be judged as reckless. I wonder how many
games players like Stuart Pierce would have finished these days,
they would have been off in the first 20 minutes because he
would have been judged to have been too forceful!
Was he a dirty player? No! He was just a wholehearted
competitor who wanted to win and there were plenty more like
him.
