ATaylor - Arsenal v West Ham

Can only comment on the last half an hour or so but from what
I’ve seen he has been absolutely shocking. Has let far too much
go in terms of strong fouls but then gives petty soft ones which
doesn’t fit with the consistency of what he has been giving.
As for the red card/penalty decision. Between him and Bankes as
var, shocking. Can’t even slide to make a tackle in the box
anymore. A cracking fair but firm challenge by coufal
Earlier in the evening I watched Simon Hooper referee palace v
Southampton and saw a confident referee fully in control trying
to let the game flow but was quick to clamp down on serious
fouling

To start off, I'm an arsenal fan so take that into mind
I watched the whole game
However, how that penalty has been given wow. When he didn't
first give it, I was like yep correct decision never a pen. Then
a second later he gives it and then sends him off ( second
yellow). What sunrises me even more is how Peter Bankes doesn't
ask for an OFR or just overturn it himself.
For the actual game foul detection was poor. Like you said some
strong fouls waved on and some petty ones given.
He also overruled Adam Nunn who didn't flag for a foul right in
front of him, for a clearly blatant dive.
Poor for a sg1 official let alone a fifa official who is elite

Taylor gave the penalty after he saw Lacazette down for a while
and I was confused - if you are not sure if it’s a foul, why
didn’t you just let the game flow and wait for VAR checking it?
Poor decision in my point of view because Coufal kicked the ball
first and the contact afterwards was not reckless enough to be a
foul.

Totally agree with the above assesments, Im also an arsenal fan,
but was stunned when that pen was given, and even more stunned
var didnt overturn it.

For me yet another match which highlights just how overrated
Taylor is. The rest of the posters have said it all. He might do
well in Europe and be seen as one of Rosetti’s stars - heavens
knows why - but some of his domestic performances leave much to
be desired….and in fact they are getting worse.

Have to agree it didnt look a penalty to me.iI started a thread
a few weeks back when mr taylor refereed the villa v brighton
game when His decisions were so late the game had nearly gone
into another phase when he blew. ( slight exaggeration ).
Give yourself a few seconds thinking time yes, but if you wait
that long it doesnt look good, it cant be advantage and gives
the impression of doubt, in which case he shouldnt have given
it, or people, not in the refereeing fraternity, think he is
making decisions on players reactions.
Very much a mixed bag for me overall, some very good decisions
in the first half especially, a few not so good.
I would say overall not a convincing performance.

Even David Moyes has come out and said that the penalty was
correct. Yes Coufal got a slight glance on the ball but then
immediately took out the attacker, that is a penalty. I'm not
sure it needed to be a second caution though.

Classic Taylor though.... seemingly every foul in the 2nd half
results in a booking.

I only saw the Youtube highlights from sky so can only comment
on the penalty.
I should start by saying I do not think this is a penalty and I
think the manner in which Taylor made the decision was poor with
a delayed whistle and hesitating as he put the whistle to his
mouth. Regardless of how correct/incorrect the call was this was
a bad starting point in terms of selling the decision. If deemed
a foul, I think a DOGSO YC is supportable at the least.
I started by saying I don't think it is a penalty however I also
think VAR is correct not to intervene. I think they got VAR
right in EURO 2020 by and large and I think the made it very
clear that they were not going to overturn wrong calls, only
very clearly wrong calls and IMO this is a call which can be
supported. One could argue the majority of contact is made with
the player rather than the ball and that this is the more
significant contact in the incident. I am confident that under
the UEFA approach adopted during EURO this would not have been
overturned. I think in terms of 'softness' it is similar to the
two penalties given by Lahoz in his final match at EURO - and
recall that while VAR did not intervene Lahoz also did not get
another game. Acceptable calls, perhaps, under the LOTG but not
what football as a whole wants. IMO this is the correct way to
operate VAR, if it is possible to support a call it should be
supported, rather than going looking to correct. I think we have
to accept that under this approach some calls will be ones we
really don't like but I think its better than an overbearing
approach from the VAR. Again though - I think this is a poor
call by Taylor, I don't like this being a penalty and I think it
would have been better had he not whistled - I just think it is
one the referee must take responsibility for, not the VAR.
On the whole I think Taylor has done very well in Europe and
generally is good in his EPL games in terms of general
refereeing (fitness, body language, player management) however,
in the EPL at least, he makes it seems to me a lot of KMI
errors, more, I would guess, than some referees most would say
are in the lower half of SG1.

Another step nearer to the point where every contact is a foul
one way or another. A note to defenders ---Please do not attempt
to tackle an opponent and win the ball because if your opponent
falls over he will get the decision. Modern football at the top
level is getting worse every week. So sad.
