Surely that was a blatant dive by Maddison? Lascelles leg
didn’t move and Maddison “found” the leg and threw himself to
the ground. More astonishing is that VAR did not overturn the
decision. Was Paul Tierney in the VAR room influenced by the
fact that Lascelles didn’t kick up a fuss??

Some of the penalty decisions this weekend have been shambolic..
And some of the performances from the likes of Attwell, England,
Bankes, and Madley have been questionable... Not saying that
they have been very poor or that, but you'd expect a bit better
especially from Attwell at Anfield yesterday. He just left the
occasion get to him totally.

Not saying that they have been very poor or that, but you'd
expect a bit better especially from Attwell at Anfield

FACT
Norwich committed 6 fouls and had 1 booking ( not for the
penalty "won" by Ronaldo )
Man U committed 17 fouls and had 1 booking.
If you look at the Norwich booking for Lees-Malou which happened
2 minutes into injury time at the end of the game, that was his
first foul and if you ranked the 23 fouls in seriousness from
being nailed on yellow to just a foul it would have been in the
bottom 10.
McTominay in particular but along with Fred and Rashford
committed the majority of the Man U fouls all far more serious
but not a single word was said. Even Gary Neville was surprised
when McTominay didn't get carded after his 2nd foul. And
obviously McGuire as Captain is allowed to run 50 yards to
complain when a free kick was given outside the penalty area.
All I ask for is consistency, which Norwich didn't get. It was a
shame we didn't have the card shark from the Wirral, he wouldn't
have been scared of upsetting them. It's also annoying in a
season and half of Premier League - 56 games we haven't had him,
but yet already this season we have had Gillett and Jones twice.

Talk in various quarters of England in line for his white badge
shortly. Is he really worthy? I have my strong reservations but
what do I know?

With respect, those ‘facts’ are totally meaningless. 17 fouls
is less than two per starting outfield player. If you want to
discuss referee performances with quantitative data, you need to
do better than that.
Just as that age-old “but it’s my first one,ref!” doesn’t
protect from a red card, not every foul is a caution. The
statistics become immediately irrelevant.
What are the consistency issues you have a problem with, and if
they were genuine, how did they change the match?

The penalty was a penalty, Aarons had his arm round Ronaldo's
neck. Whilst I don't think it would have been given by VAR had
Darren England not given it, it certainly couldn't be described
as wrong, let alone not clear and obviously wrong.
Yes, it was Lees-Malou's first foul, but that is irrelevant.
Even the BBC feed described it as a "bad foul", you don't get a
certain number of fouls before you get a caution, it doesn't
work like that.
I watched the game live as a neutral and Darren England was
fine.

I don't think the facts aren't meaningless. As I said the Man U
midfield trio made the majority of their fouls, yet he booked a
Norwich player for his First foul which wasn't a cautionable
offence based on what he had allowed to go during the game.
McTominay had made more and worse fouls. There was absolutely no
reason to book Lees-Melou. If he had booked McTominay after his
first foul he would have had to change his game and not been
able to keep making fouls and stopping Norwich play.

I never said the penalty was wrong, I would just put it in the
same category as Man City's against Wolves and Leicester's v
Newcastle,
It's just amazing how McTominay and others got through the game
without getting booked either for persistent fouling or for in
my opinion making worse fouls than the Norwich booking.
