Stand out appointments for me are Gillett at Arsenal, England
getting Man United and Harrington getting his first Premier
League match.

I agree, and also a decent game for Rob Jones - what's the
betting it is postponed?!
Who is VAR for Arsenal V Southampton? I just hear something
about Observer Select Group 2.
Madley's had 4 or so live PL games this season, so seems trusted
now, which is good.
Given the Corona outbreak at Spurs I think that game will be
postponed.
If this Omicron variant keeps spreading at this rate they must
have to consider ground closures again surely and no fans?
I think the Spurs game will be off, but at the moment there is
no evidence the omicron variant is anything to worry about.
There don't appear to have been any hospitalisations or deaths,
even in countries where it has been around for a few weeks now.
Some experts think it might actually be the end of Covid, as it
spreads more but only causes mild infection, meaning it will
take over but not cause the same health issues as previous
variants.
Only time will tell I guess.

It is rather noticeable that Jarred Gillett has had the
experience of Michael Oliver, Martin Atkinson, Anthony Taylor
and Mike Dean helping him through his early Premier League
sojourns. Very good idea to do this and it confirms my view that
Gillett is very highly rated. He seems to be in good form too,
with another Prem outing at Arsenal this weekend following hot
on the heels of the Tottenham game.
Good to see Tony Harrington finally make his top flight bow too.
Hope it goes well for him. The busy Christmas and New Year
programme will keep the new incumbents in action and hopefully,
in form.

The right call, imo.

How come Tottenham have had their game postponed? Arsenal were
refused a cancellation against Brentford when they had Covid-19
running through the squad!

Both teams have to agree it so maybe Brentford refused.

Because Arsenal had a few players infected. Spurs seem to have
somehow infected a huge percentage of their playing and
non-playing squad. UEFA don't normally allow postponements, but
the fact that even they have shows how bad the situation is.

With the numbers already infected, chances are some who are
currently negative will test positive in the next couple of
days, leaving them with very few players available. Plus, if I
was a Brighton player/staff, I'd hardly want a team coming to
play at our home stadium who have loads of Covid cases within
their ranks.

I have a suspicion that we will see a raft of games at all
levels called off over this festive period…..
