Anthony Taylor Man United v Chelsea

From what I have seen (I missed the penalty) Anthony Taylor has
done very well today. I really wish however that, after
correctly cautioning Ronaldo for dissent, he had swiftly issued
a second yellow and red for the sarcastic clapping of the
initial yellow. A gesture that I personally find utterly
disrespectful and I think is one of the clearest examples of
dissent by action. While I cannot be critical of Taylor for not
giving a SYC as I've no doubt the PGMOL do not want a yellow
here, it is a shame that officials yet again must allow
themselves to be disrespected and they authority degraded.
A lot of YCs here in the last few minutes, all look correct to
my eye. Taylor's positioning is, as always, exemplary.

A rare blooper from Nunn late on, a clear offside not flagged
and Tuchel went potty on the touchline earning a card. I dread
to think what would’ve happened had Man U scored from the
resulting corner as VAR couldn’t come in as play had been
restarted.
As for a Ronaldo, he is a disgrace with his protestations. A red
would have been a satisfactory sanction for his petulance.

100% agree, but - as you noted - AT is doing what his employers
want him to do. He would do the game a great service if he
simply applied the Laws as he saw them, but he would soon be out
of work. Such is the conflict of interest that applies to the
PGMOL.

100% agree, but - as you noted - AT is doing what his employers
want him to do. He would do the game a great service if he
simply applied the Laws as he saw them, but he would soon be out

PGMOL.

It must be so demoralising to know that there is an available
sanction within the LOTG that you are effectively prevented from
using because of directives from higher up the food chain.

Never totally convinced. 7 yellows in a game that wasn’t that
dirty. I think he lost control a bit towards the end

Absolutely - and look at how Michael Salisbury was criticised
for his control yesterday, must be even harder making your debut
when you feel your hands are tied slightly with regards to the
sanctions you can use.

I second this, foul detection just random. 2 identical fouls
back to back, one given one not.
Between him, the 4th official and far side assistant someone
should've been able to tell Ronaldo was offside. To give the
Chelsea manager a yellow card just adds insult to injury.
A typical Taylor performance, random and the yellow cards
increase as the game goes on for 1st time offender.

Did anyone else notice how Ronaldo walked off at end without
shaking hands with anyone. Petulant, spoilt, disgraceful,
snarling, only in it for himself.
And Fernandes once again proving what a whinging, horrible
little individual he is and totally anonymous when up against a
decent team.
As for Taylor - for me the usual, overrated performance.

Wasn't it 8 YCs with Tuchel or did I just lose count? I tend to
agree it wasn't a game in which you'd expect that many cards,
but on the other hand it would be hard to argue that any were
totally wrong. In fact, ironically, I thought another Chelsea
player should have been cautioned for a pull-back similar to
McTominay's and Rashford's who were both carded. I thought he
was reasonable overall. He didn't appear to try and 'manage' the
game so I can only assume that was his game plan from the
beginning. I couldn't help wondering how Marriner or even Oliver
would have approached that game.
Correction: Apologies. Rashford's YC was not for a pull-back
of course but for a poor challenge.

When KMN gave Rooney the 2nd YC and RC for his clapping, I guess
like me we all hoped that incident would embolden referees to to
take action and warn players to not demonstrate disrespect. Alas
we were wrong.
