I think second yellow for this is harsh - the fan basically
assaulted Ojo and his reaction was understandable given what a
shock the push must have been, and how dangerous it was. Any
thoughts?

I remember the Eden Hazard red card where he booted a ball boy
to get the ball back and the silver fox sent him off at Swansea
IIRC.
It goes to show that not all the cards happen directly on the
field of play.

How anyone can even contemplate a yellow card for that is beyond
my comprehension. There was nothing to see, and he certainly
couldn’t hear anything from that distance

I don't agree with a YC for that, especially as a 2nd YC. The
'fan' and I use the term loosely will hopefully have a knock on
his door and a lengthy ban.

Think Bobby Madden's hands were tied to a certain extent. Is
advancing towards or confronting a supporter not a mandatory
caution? I am of course referring to Ojo after he was pushed and
going to remonstrate with the fan, not his natural momentum
initially taking him there.

I agree, I think his hands are tied, yes the fan pushed him but
he's a professional and shouldn't react

Every bit of guidance is open to a bit of interpretation and
common sense. In the context of the game this nullified a
United player getting sent off for punching someone in the
bollocks. I think a bit of mitigation given the extreme
provocation, Madden could have just had a word there - United
clearly were not expecting further action and I doubt he'd have
got any criticism.

The fan involved has now been charged with assault so probably
best to tread carefully discussing this going forward.

Don’t disagree either with what Tweed says, however if it is a
mandatory caution then the ref risks being marked down for not
issuing one.
It’s the law at fault in that case, not the ref.

I think when you're dealing with incidents with spectators you
have to apply a bit of context and empathy. Players should be
able to feel safe on the play and getting attacked by a
spectator is very different to when it comes from another
player.
By the same token, I hate it when players tackle a pitch invader
who is coming for them (and could have a knife for all they
know) and are given a red card.

Presumably, we'll see guidance come from this, though on the
occasion we must first acknowledge that Madden is a long-term
FIFA official and so his understanding of the nuances of these
types of decisions are superior to ours.
On the other hand, given no VAR in Scotland (as yet), and the
fact it happened off the pitch, what the officials saw or
thought they saw, may not marry perfectly with the situation as
it unfolded.
By the book, it is a yellow card, and if it had been his first
no one would have thought much of it. The problem with "common
sense" application is that it is inconsistent, unusual, and open
to abuse and inconsistency.
My only reflection on this incident is thank goodness I wasn't
there.
