Rade Obrenovic - San Marino v England

Fairly easy game for the Slovenian referee to officiate as it is
       woefully one sided so far.
Two incidents the referee had to adjudicate on, a yellow card
for a clear shirt pull by a San Marino player - nailed on.
Then a volley by Foden was clearly handled by a San Marino
player in the penalty area. The hand was high in the air as
though he was appealing for offside, which it clearly wasn’t.
There was a modest appeal by the England players and the
decision was referred to the ubiquitous VAR.
It must have taken nearly four minutes for the referee to decide
it was a deliberate handball, with the unnecessary viewing of
the pitchside monitor. To me, it looked very obvious. Eventually
the referee pointed to the spot and cautioned the San Marino
       player.
Another penalty for handball for England as I write, this one
just as clear cut. Arm in unnatural position and knocked away
the header. Given without recourse to the VAR and correctly so,
       with another yellow card administered.
FIFA really do need to look at the quality of these teams that
get pummelled every time they play and here, England are 6-0 up
before half time. If it was a cricket match, England would
declare and enforce the follow on. A nonsense of a game.
As an aside, Mr. Obrenovic looks like a hybrid of Jeff Winter
and Jarred Gillett.....both of those gentlemen would find this
game a doddle to officiate too.

Even Hackett today could referee this match….
I agree about the standard of teams… something needs to be done.

Shows the Nations Cup has value, sides playing others around
       their quality.
Other confederations layer or seed the qualification process,
maybe Europe needs to follow suit?

Ridiculous decision to caution Abraham for a mistimed backheel
       before the disallowed ninth goal.
Perhaps VAR was getting bored of this contest and wanted to have
       something to do.

Frankly some of the officiating in this game is matching the
       home side.

I have stopped watching. Ludicrously mismatched, it's barely
       sport.

Likewise, I was watching both England and Scotland on a split
screen up to half time, then switched to Scotland v Denmark
only. Good game to watch Scotland hanging on for a win and
riding their luck just a little bit. Well refereed, allowing
the game to flow, helped by two teams who didn't go in for too
       much histrionics.

The first handball penalty and the Abraham disallowed goal were
both examples of a VAR official looking for things to do
"because they can". Neither raised an eyebrow to the people on
       the field of play.
The handball may have had some logic in law, but - in this case
       - the law in an ass. The defender was appealing for offside
(not correct, but equally not an offence to do so) and was then
withdrawing his hand to avoid a shot which was going wide. The
referee awarded a goal-kick, but the VAR (possibly using
cricket's "ultra edge" equipment) spotted a faint touch and the
rest was history. The accompanying yellow card was another
example of a referee reinforcing (in his mind) the correctness
of a decision with a card.
As for the Abraham disallowed goal - was the contact really
sufficient to justify a lengthy VAR delay, scrubbing out the
goal and a yellow card? No, no and no. VAR fell for player
reaction (which was overdone) and convinced his mate
       accordingly.
Finally, having been forensic in identifying handball offences
and reckless foul challenges only one minute of added time was
permitted in the second half. If you are going to "do the job
properly", then get this right. With the substitutions and VAR
checks, that should have been no less than four minutes,
probably six. If you want to referee it like a testimonial in
terms of added time, don't make daft decisions during the first
ninety minutes. I know that it would have just added more agony
onto the San Marino team, but he cannot have it both ways.
As you may have spotted, I was not impressed!

I only saw the later highlights programme. The refereeing seemed
to be a bit mechanical / robotic. Perceived foul = yellow card,
the one to Abraham being ludicrous in my view. I was not
surprised when SM went down to 10 men. A Coote look-a-like?

I comment on the whole game as I thankfully didn’t watch it. I
saw the last 15 minutes of the 1st half .Both penalties for me
seemed extremely harsh particularly the 1st one. Ref seemed at
times to want to let the game flow but was then giving free
kicks Willy nilly. He seemed very robotic and lacked empathy for
       the game.
I’m sure m’learned friend Hendo will be pleased with Kane’s
contribution: 4 goals including 2 penalties against a team my
mate’s Sunday pub team would have no problem beating.
😅😜 But I’m sure this result will go a long way
to ensuring England win the world cup
