Michael Oliver - Bosnia & Herzegovina - Finland

Great first half from Michael Oliver & team. Some problem around
the 5th min when he left the pitch to speak with the coaches and
then called the captains over on the pitch, I believe it was
something to do with the comms system and not being able to hear
the VAR.
6th min - pen shout for Bosnia & Herzegovina - ball hit the
hand(?) of a Finnish player, he was sat on the floor, hand by
his side supporting him (he'd slid in). Not a handball under the
LOTG - correct to not give a penalty. It will have been
reviewed by VAR but passed with little fuss and not much comment
from the commentators.
24th min Miralem Pjanic (Bosnia & Herzegovina) booked for hand
ball. VAR review - penalty correctly given. It was saved. Pjanic
not happy with the decision but it was very clear on the
replays.
37th min Red Card Jukka Raitala (Finland). Tackle from behind,
reckless, studs up and caught the Bosnia & Herzegovina player on
his Achilles. Oliver blew for the foul but there was a few
seconds delay in giving the card so one of his team may have
been in his ear saying it was a red not yellow. Raitala
catching the player would most likely have been blindside to
him, it was on the opposite side of the players to him. VAR
review showed the red was spot on.
Lovely rapport with players. He looks quite relaxed out there.
He's had a few hugs from players, which is rather sweet. The
players obviously respect him & have confidence in him. He's
been well supported by his team.
2nd half:
73rd min - very close offside call - VAR review. It's a tight
one - goal given. Literally mm in it. Nice to see Oliver
explaining the decision to the Bosnia & Herzegovina players, who
just nodded and accepted it. There seemed to be further problems
with the comms again with Oliver struggling to hear.
Chris Kavanagh doing brilliant in the VAR booth today.
Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-3 Finland currently with 10 mins to go.

Yellow card for Sanjin Prcic (Bosnia & Herzegovina) for a silly
foul! Easy call.
Final score: Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-3 Finland
Thoroughly enjoyable game for the neutral. 2 well behaved teams
battling it out, respect towards each other & the match
officials.
Well done Michael & team - you can be proud of your performance
& contribution to the game. [emoji122]
PS He wore red!

That close call for offside was very very tight. On the
highlights version it looked off.

The comms from the VAR had gone down completely 1st half.
Kavanagh was speaking with the 4th official via a walkie talkie
and then he was relaying it to Oliver on the pitch.

No angle on it to draw lines I suspect. Commentators seemed
happy with it and they are the first to moan about decisions! I
couldn't decide so I'll go with team ref's decision.

The third Finland goal looks like a really tight offside in real
time. It did shock me that VAR took a look and confirm the goal.
No lines were shown through live broadcast. If onside call was
correct then Simon Bennett and VAR both did a great job!
