C KAVANAGH - Aston Villa v West Ham

As soon as Konsa felled the West Ham attacker I said to the
other half that’s gotta be red for DOGSO.
I’m very surprised Kavanagh went yellow.
I get the feeling the officials are using the yellow card in
scenarios like this as a “defensive card” so to speak, erring on
the side of caution (like Taylor last week when Pogba was binned
after VAR came in)
I thought the Kortney Hause challenge should have been red
beforehand…

I was less sure about the DOGSO than I was about the elbow in
the face which I felt should have been a RC.

It wasn’t an elbow. They got that right. As for the red card.
Obvious error. No he had a clear view and made his decision.
Another absolutely inept performance from our overrated SG1
referees . Shocking display by this referee. You can push
players to the floor. That’s a yellow. Total garbage. An
embarrassment.

The only problem with that view is that a decision overturned by
VAR is still a KMI for the perspective of their observation
mark. A missed red card, corrected or not, is still a 7.9.
No official errs on the side of caution knowing they'll get
"bailed out". If they make a mistake, it will be corrected
either way, so the only motivation is to be correct, in exactly
the same manner they would be if VAR was absent.

Out of interest what evidence leads you to the feeling that " he
thinks he's better than he actually is " ?

What a quite ridiculous statement. I would ask what this is
based on(Edited disagree with an opinion by all means but do not
resort to abusing . FINAL WARNING!)
Anyway, onto the decisions.
Elbow: It could have gone either way but it was more of a
forearm than elbow and I wasn’t expecting it to be upgraded. On
these types of incidents, I always look at where the player is
looking and if they’re fists are clenched, there was no clear
sign of brutality there to request a review IMO.
Denial: Initially the play was wide of the goal and a yellow
card seemed to be appropriate. However, as soon as the
recommendation is made, there was only going to be one outcome
when it’s played back to any official watching it back.
I’d also note the red card and Villas 3rd goal came from two
superb advantages. The incident in the centre where there was a
bit of pushing etc was also well managed.
I thought it was a solid performance.

Elbow - Yellow, minimum, red defendable.
DOGSO - nailed on, poor to need VAR to get this right.

Elbow or forearm, it looked to me to be delivered with some
force and even the pundits (ex players) on Sky though Red.
How do you square a YC in this case with, for example, the RC
Anthony Taylor brandished to Martial against Spurs last season
that was nothing more than a tap despite Lamela's theatrics, and
which most on here thought a correct decision?

I know he has been injured and don’t want to use it as an excuse
but don’t think Kavanagh has been very convincing in his 4 games
so far. I thought he had a poor end to last season so seems to
be a bit of a hangover
Like many I am not sure about the “elbow” so can support either
decision. Cannot support the yellow for DOGSO. Very clear. Can
only think it is his positioning that has let him down

I've got to say, I hadn't seen the video of this until reading
the comments here, and I expected a borderline decision.
For me, that is a very clear red card. The arm is outstretched
and clearly used with excessive force. The fact it isn't the
corner of the elbow is irrelevant.
The guidance for officials "is the arm being used as a tool or a
weapon". The arm very clearly does not need to be used in that
fashion or with anything remotely approaching that force, and
for me that would tick all the boxes for VC.
