It is me & Ben, as the forum owners, that have essentially put a
blanket ban on the word cheat. Charlie as one of our admin team
is just doing as asked by us, and does a fantastic job as well,
I will add.
I fully accept the world of difference in using it in a general
sense of some players/teams cheat and using it to state as fact
x player is a cheat and the former would be no problem. However
the last time I relaxed the rules on it being allowed to be used
in the former context, too many posters, (not insinuating you
were one of them) immediately started using it in the latter
sense and my phone was ringing off the hook with all too often
over sensitive legal beagles screeching libel/defamation and
whatever else they could at me. Some comments fell under that
umbrella, others didn't, well not in my opinion anyway but that
didn't stop the phone calls, letters, threats and in at least
half a dozen cases legal papers being issued on me. Whilst the
vast majority of posters have the common sense not to use it in
a libellous way, a minority will and do and that ends up causing
all manner of issues for the site, and me in particular, as it
seems everyone has my phone number so I'm the one who gets all
the legally threatening calls. It was therefore easier just to
place a blanket ban on the word c***t, which Ben & I decided to
do. It sucks - I agree, it's over cautious - I agree but
ultimately we had to do it to protect the site because of a
minority of people abusing it and happily posting libellous
comments behind their anonymity with no care of the consequences
for the site as a whole or indeed myself who is registered as
the site owner and the one who gets dragged to court due to
their posts. I've wasted too much time traipsing to various
courts, at my own expense, and arguing it out already in the
past, I have no desire to keep doing so.
So yes for the sites protection (and my sanity) please stick to
using acceptable euphemisms.
