Didn’t watch all the match but did see the “assault” on Saka by
MacArther,no chance and no attempt to play the ball, full volley
into the shin, got a yellow,VAR should at least got Mike Dean to
       have a look.

I haven't seen the actual incident but it does seem the bar has
been raised significantly this season in terms of what is 'clear
and obvious'. There was a 'handball' not given in one of the
games over the weekend which I suspect last season would have
       led to an OFR.

Personally, I agree with Dean's decision to give a yellow card.
The last angle looks bad, but IMO you can't conclusively say
that McArthur didn't try to actually volley the ball, ultimately
hitting Saka by reckless means. As referees, in my view we
shouldn't try to be mind readers and should be quite sure when
ejecting a player - so I agree with the caution given, too much
doubt here to say otherwise. Never VAR food either; referee has
a clear line of sight and makes his judgement call, actually we
are really far away from "clear and obvious" IMO.
The full sequence is here btw:

I agree you do not need to be a mind reader, but you do need to
look at what actually happened. His actions clearly endangered
the safety of an opponent both with the level of force used and
the lack of regard for his opponent in what was a crowded part
of the field of play. Had a red card been issued it almost
certainly would not have been overturned.
It is becoming clear that there is a football equivalent of
"umpire's call" developing in VAR. That - in itself - is fine,
but it would benefit from being overtly called, just as it is in
       cricket.

       Leggy has nailed it
To me, its Red but Mike Dean may have a better "feel" on the
       ground.

Shin? I worry about players' knowledge of anatomy with some of
the handball appeals that I see but I have never seen anyone
with shins on the backs of their legs!
