       Szymon Marciniak - Scotland v Israel

       Lots of praise for the Polish referee up here for overturning
       his decision (by way of a trip to the VAR monitor) to disallow
       Lyndon Dykes goal in the victory against Israel. I would be more
       concerned as to how he got it so wrong in the first place given
       he was looking straight at the "foul". Thankfully someone
       literally had a word in his ear and the correct decision reached
       eventually.
       That apart Mr Marcinak did ok in what was an exciting encounter,
       we NEVER do things the easy way do we ;D

       In fairness had that been 2 non-british european teams I think
       it would have been accepted, been "supportable"
       However, the attacker clearly arrived first, if the defender did
       hit anywhere it was the attackers ankle area, so correct to
       award goal.
       Was it "an obvious error"? Be interesting to see UEFA's
       interpretation.

       Yes, because the foul wouldn’t be defensible. Dykes did not
       commit a foul, so to disallow a goal on that basis would be
       “obvious”. He gets very clearly to the ball first, and the
       contact on the player is his calf on the defender’s shoulder as
       his leg comes down. The defender commits an act of simulation,
       which wasn’t cautioned, as they rarely are - but he very almost
       got away with convincing the referee to disallow a goal.
       I thought he had a decent game, but gave a few very soft free
       kicks to Israel in non-threatening positions and allowed far too
       much play acting. Ultimately, 9 minutes of additional times was
       played in total, and Scotland’s winner was in 93:40(ish) so
       they’re rank gamesmanship ultimately cost them.
