       Congratulations to England’s number one!

Why? I don’t see Michael Oliver’s name there?

That will be an ongoing debate, but I've not seen any comment or
discussion about Taylor's performance yesterday or Oliver's in
the Cyprus v Croatia game. As I didn't watch either game, I
       excuse myself.

Is everybody convinced that goal for Spain is onside? The still
images I’ve seen appear to suggest it was offside but Mr Attwell
       decided it was a goal

Its because the Spain defender Eric Garcia was deemed to have
played the ball. Rather than it being a deflection, he made a
conscious effort to play it, so even though he was stretching
       that resets the offside phase.
Not saying I agree with the current law, but the decision was
       100% correct as law stands.

If you ask Rossetti, it's Taylor. If you ask Collina, it's
Oliver. What recent tournaments have shown, however, is that
both of them are in Europe's top 8 or 10 (with Kuipers gone and
       Brych soon to be away)

Thanks for clarifying and I agree wit you.
This rule seems very harsh and bizzare. A defender can risk
letting the ball go through to an attacker who maybe on or
offside for a clear shot on goal, but if he tries to intercept
etc. then the striker is deemed onside anyway. Seems very unfair
       to me

Interesting to speculate. Hasn't Skomina retired, so if we
exclude Brych, based on recent appointments there is a case for
Taylor being considered 4 or 5 in Rosetti's eyes with Lahoz,
Orsato, Cakir (?) and possibly Makkelie ahead. Not Turpin I
would have thought. Oliver is more tricky. Is he seen as on a
par with the likes of del Cerro Grande, Hategan and now maybe
Karasev? I would have thought the Euros, particularly his 2
Group games, might have seen him climb a few places in the
pecking order. Conceivably 7, but more likely 8 or 9?

       Yes. Injury forced retirement.

I don't think that UEFA pays too much attention to these 2
matches. Putting 2 lower Elite referees probably means that they
are not so interested on these fixtures.
