       P TIERNEY - Liverpool v Man City

Oh dear oh dear, after the praise for Tierney last week in the
NL derby things have crashed and burned this afternoon.
How Milner survived is beyond belief and a crazy decision not to
       issue the second yellow.
The foul on Foden should probably have been awarded, but it
       wasn’t a penalty so VAR couldn’t intervene.
No surprise Guardiola was carded for protesting, and I loved
Mike Dean’s face when Guardiola exploded.

Not a penalty for me, Foden went down far too easily, however
Milner should have been sent off. I think he actually gave the
free kick against Henderson so he must have just missed it -
       mistakes do happen.
The behaviour of Guardiola on the touchline is disgraceful - its
time referees take stronger action and get him binned to the
stands. Gestiuclating widly when something goes against him.
I've seen managers at lower levels sent off for much less. He
       needs to grow up!

Yes Milner should definitely seen a second yellow followed by
red for the cynical trio on Bernardo , I thought other than that
mistake he kept a low profile , and I too certainly enjoyed Mike
Deans facial expression when Guardiola lost his head

Agreed completely on the Guardiola point.
Not a foul for me on Foden either. As you say, in any case it
       wouldn’t have been a penalty so a non-issue.
The Milner tackle ticked the caution box for
reckless/SPA/unsporting conduct for being a cynically deliberate
foul. Perhaps, he gave the first foul by Henderson but given the
obvious nature, the proximity and time gap, that would be
       unsatisfactory.
I’m as appreciative as anyone that games like these, officiated
by top FIFA officials, are not managed just like ‘any other
game’, but even with that lens, I can’t see a reason not to
       caution.

I doubt it's the first time Milner's somehow avoided getting a
deserved second YC. If Tierney was penalising Henderson, I'm
sure he'd not blown his whistle before the Milner foul as it was
almost immediate. Well though Tierney has performed in some
recent top games, I'm afraid that was a really poor decision.
On the Foden incident, I actually thought he was fouled but just
outside the box. Not a penalty, but a free kick in that
       position might have been interesting.
I take Hendo's point. It's all very well focusing just on
Guardiola's antics, and I don't condone them, but any Manager in
a game of that importance would be a little upset I suspect at a
Referee failing to administer a second YC for that opponent's
challenge. At least Mike Dean's facial expressions brought some
       light relief!

I haven’t seen any other manager react that way over 1 decision-
right or wrong you respect the decision of the referee.
Guardiola has previous. IMO Tierney didn’t uphold the LOTG by
letting clear aggressive behaviour continue; he should have been
       sent to the stands!

Milner should have had a 2nd yellow, that's a poor decision by
Tierney. I'm sure he will be disappointed with himself, he
should be getting those calls right.
Guardiola's behaviour was dreadful - yes he's a right to be
upset with the decision but he certainly has no right to behave
like a toddler who has had too many sweeties and missed their
nap. Grow up man, you are meant to be professional, act like
       one.

Why aren't nudges/pushes in the back in and around the penalty
being penalised by a free kick? None of them are shoulder barges
and none of them are attempts by the defender to try to play the
ball. if these were challenges on the half way line they'd have
       no trouble awarding them.

That's a bit harsh, considering the poor officiating that led to
the reaction. Had Tierney applied the LOTG correctly, then the
reaction wouldn't have materialised at all.
I also disagree with the notion that Foden went down too easily.
The pace at which he was moving, and the fact the contact from
Milner (albeit outisde of the area, imo) caused his leg to hit
his other leg, I'm not sure what is expected of Foden in that
scenario? How can he possibly stay upright?
A poor display from Tierney, ruined by a couple of critical
       incidents he got wrong.
