AFC Bournemouth v Sheffield Utd - Rob Jones

The major controversy among fans during this game concerned a
penalty to Bournemouth, awarded after a challenge in the D of
the penalty area on Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke by Sheff
U defender Edna Stevens.

after 4 minutes in..
For my money, although the initial contact was outside the box,
the offence continued as the players continued into the box with
Stevens continuing to rake his studs down Solanke's leg.
Penalty for me, but in addition Stevens should have gone for
SFP. Not even a booking.
Someone has mentioned that it may be because none of the
officials knew for sure who'd committed the tackle.

I watched the highlights and I cannot fathom why Jones wore
black given the colours of AFCB and SU.
It surely had to be yellow for this game….

Perhaps they should employ you to decide the colour of the
refereeing attire for all games!
That would be the end of yellow and the introduction of
m’learned fellow contributor Whistleblower’s favourite of pink.

With Stevens not receiving a caution , solanke should have left
the field of play after receiving treatment. I agree it was a
penalty

Romania have a very vile salmon pink kit... I even prefer the
sugar plum fairy kit over it! My displeasure has been loudly
vocalised! 2 sets of ears are still ringing - the owner of 1 set
has apologised profusely, the other is still laughing!!

Not correct.
There are a number of exceptions, one of which is if the injured
player is the penalty taker, and a penalty is awarded as a
result of the foul.
Perfectly in order for Solanke to stay on the pitch and take the
penalty.

I’m afraid you’re incorrect in law Laz… players who receive
treatment and are the designated penalty kick taker no longer
have to leave the field of play if they are taking the kick. The
referee applied law completely correctly (in a complicated
matter it should be noted). Also a very good piece of teamwork
to award the kick in the first place for the continued offence
of the reckless challenge from Stevens. The only negative being
the missed caution for the offender. I can only imagine that the
officials lost the offender in the ensuing scrum of players
