       Sam Purkiss Sunderland v Bolton

OK yes I am posting as a Sunderland fan whose team won a proper
old fashioned football match today but to comment on the referee
can be made by using one word only
       WOW !!!!
It is the first time I have seen this referee and I must say he
       had a storming game.
He let the game flow and didn't blow up every five seconds and
I honestly cannot remember him getting any decision wrong.
Just before the end and with Bolton chasing the game there was
a foul committed by a Sunderland player inside the Bolton half a
flare up erupted and what he did was just let it peter out and
book one offending player without hoying the reds around.
Well done Sam Allison I hope you go far based on repeat
       performances like that of today.

Typo at bottom of your assessment robbieg you have put Sam
Allison lol , never seen Sam Purkiss referee yet but sounds like
a very good performance and a promising refereeing career ahead
       of him

I have seen Sam Purkiss on a couple of occasion. Very
understated style and accurate with decision making is my
remembrance of him. Something makes me think the Law his his
profession but I can't say for sure. Does anyone know ?

Originally from Gainsborough, he is a graduate of Cambridge
University and has qualified as a solicitor who advises on
commercial and regulatory matters relating to sport,
sponsorship, the exploitation of intellectual property and
publishing. So probably not in football for the money!
Sent off 5 home players in an Isthmian League match a while
back. Saw him a fair bit at non-league level. Not surprised he
       is progressing.

Thank you for the further information m'learned friend. Well
Purkiss certainly has the right alma mater ( Whistleblower says
with every vestige of bias ! ) and his legal specialisms are
certainly at the sharp ( and often quite lucrative ) end of the
market. Intellectual property in particular is a very keen field
these days. Good to see a referee with a profession other than
Refereeing Development or Management, both of which seem to be
       very prevalent these days.

I saw him in his early days on the list in L2 at Gresty Road.
Not overly-impressed on that occasion, and pleased to see that
       he is obviously progressing.

An excellent performance and by far the best official we have
had this season. He let the play flow and his game management
was exceptional and he certainly seemed to establish a good
rapport with the players from the off. There was a bit of a
skirmish near the end but he handled it brilliantly and calmly.
Good luck to him for the rest of the season.

If my memory isn't slipping as i approach the national speed
limit, I think Sam's game with the five dismissals was at
Wingate and Finchley? I'm sure there'll be google searches for
       the thrill seekers. 😄
