L DOUGHTY - Stoke v Barnsley

Four red cards in his game tonight… deserved for Smith for a
dangerous challenge.
The penalty decision was a joke and was saved from Vrancic.
However the headlines is the mass brawl at the end with three
red cards to members of the dug out staff on both sides.
The FA will be busy tomorrow issuing summons to both sides for
the disgraceful scenes.

Think the penalty decison is correct, yes Collins tries to pull
out the challenge at last minute but it's too late and he clips
Sturridge.
Smith red card is a red in my eyes but some referees may have
gone yellow.
The brawl at the end although Holden didn't do a lot wrong the
fact he's gone into the Barnsley technical area has started it
off so can see why he has been sent off, in all fairness another
2 or 3 reds could/should of been given.
One thing which bugs me about this game (and many others) is
tonight you had both GKs and refereeing team all in florescent
yellow. I don't know if the blue referee kit is still available
but surely
That would of been a better choice than the same as both GKs?

They are lucky that he left anyone still sitting in the
technical area. Badly behaved brats the lot of them.
Disgraceful. There's passion/in game emotions and there is
disgusting behaviour - this was the latter, imo. Long touchline
bans please FA - make a statement this sort of behaviour will
not be tolerated.

Anything would have been a better choice than yellow. He could
have worn the aqua/blue or the sexy purple. While issuing
touchline bans please ban that vile colour as well, thank you!

Re. the penalty decision, he didn't touch him at all. I can see
why the ref gave it from his angle, but it was clear simulation
by Surridge.

VAR would have had some fun if they were in the ground for that
game….
I can see more punishment heading towards both teams as well as
it looks like more perpetrators weren’t identified for getting
involved in the mass brawl.
A poor image to young fans and up and coming players portrayed
by individuals who should know better.

No option for the referee but to send him off. The Laws are
clear: entering the opposing technical area in an aggressive or
confrontational manner is explicitly a red card offence.

As a Stoke fan, I thought Mr Doughty's performance was poor.
Being in the ground, I felt Surridge had thrown himself to the
ground before any contact with the Barnsley GK, and should have
been booked for simulation. I'm grateful for the penalty,
although I felt justice was served by it being saved.
The red card is one I'll put in the orange bracket, the height
of the follow through (and perhaps the reaction of the opponent)
earn the red card. However, I do feel some refs will have just
cautioned Smith. No surprise the appeal has been rejected.
Now to the fun part - the touchline handbags. I'll stat that
this comes out of pure frustration from the Stoke coaching staff
after the last few visiting teams have arrived with one
intention - to waste time. Roll the clock back to Saturday when
Huddersfield were in town. Mr Smith warned their GK in the 21st
min about the time he was taking, then warned Toffolo at a
throw-in. Ironically, he choose to caution Holmes for
time-wasting in around the 61st minute with them 2-1 behind.
Barnsley were by no means as bad as that but they were taking
their time to get the ball back into play. Just take a look at
when they equalised and they all went across for a drinks break!
So, Holden's frustrations have been clear for all to see. With
an extra man, the Tykes were quite happy with their point.
Holden has retrieved the ball from the Barnsley manager who was
keeping hold of it, when it all kicks off. One Barnsley coach
grabs Holden by the scruff of the neck, before another
slaps/punches the back of his head, which you can see in the
videos. So, I was rather confused when Mr Doughty saw fit to
dismiss both Holden & Delap from the technical area with just
one Barnsley coach being shown red.
Elsewhere, Mr Doughty's timekeeping was poor. I always time each
half and despite all the stoppages, the second half was just
43:20. Unlikely to change the result, but enough to feel short
changed with the amount of time the ball was in-play.
A final observation was around the failure of fourth official Mr
Ward to perform his duties. During the game, both managers were
leaving their technical areas, which he did very little about. I
can remember a couple of times when Michael O'Neill either
entered the field of play or blocked Mrs Aspinall from running
the line. Plus, there was no signal from Mr Ward when the 90
minutes had passed to show how much additional time had been
added.
A disappointing night for the officials. Hopefully Mr Doughty
will take the necessary learnings from this game and improve
from this.
I'm off to Derby tomorrow and would say I hope to see better
from Mr Simpson...

Disgraceful.
And do you know what p****s me off just as much is the fans
applauding folk getting sent off as if they are some sort of
cult heroes. Pathetic

These mass brawls appear to be happening with alarming
regularity these days.
The FA really need to get a grip on these disgraceful scenes
happening and sanction HARD.
