When we were here 2 seasons ago, we only had Oliver once and
that was for the first game at Liverpool and I then I think for
1 FA Cup game.

not bottom.

Can't see why we need Oliver again in MD4 after having him in
MD1! ???

These appointments are once again disappointing. The PGMO has
promoted four referees and a month into the season we have not
seen any of them. To be honest, you could also add Darren
England, Rob Jones, Simon Hooper, Graham Scott, and Andrew
Madley, this means that nine of the 22 referees are hardly being
used.
When Mike Riley was promoted, along with Graham Barber to the
premier league in 1996 he refereed 22 games. His debut was on
matchday 2 and then refereed in match days 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11,
13, and 15. He refereed Arsenal in his third game – away at
Aston Villa (at the time was 2nd v 5th). Throughout that season
he refereed Man Utd, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Everton.
It’s time that Gillett, Harrington, Brook, and Salisbury are
given a chance, having the same referees on a regular basis is
doing nothing for the development of referees in this country.
When Mike was a young referee he was given great opportunities
and developed, it is time now he did the same for others.

There are 21 referees and so to have the referee twice after
only 4 games is embarrassing. I know 2 are injured and a couple
are only just returning but it’s still scandalous by whoever is
doing the appointments!

Barring injuries etc I just don’t understand the thinking behind
it. What will it achieve?
1. When they finally get games, it’ll be such a big thing and
they’ll be very rusty - gone from weekly games last season (at
least) to practically nothing?
2. Impossible to perform well and gain momentum on odd games
here and there (eg. Jones). Surely leads to nerves, wondering
when next game will come if you make any slight ‘error’.
3. Oliver & Taylor have just been flying all over Europe in a
tournament, were planned always for WCQ matches this month and
are presumably due to start a busy CL/UEFA season. Surely an
ideal time to use them less (on games that don’t need them),
even give them weekends off with family / to rest, to avoid
burnout.
4. Pawson had a WCQ this week and has had plenty of games -
surely no need to appoint him this weekend?
5. The SG1 is very ‘old’ now with some experienced names nearing
the end - all the more reason to have the next generation ready
with plenty of games under their belts.
If England is nominated for FIFA (??) maybe protecting him from
controversy by using less at the moment?
At this rate, some will take 4 seasons to do a “season’s” worth
of experience! If they’re good enough, get them going; if not,
they shouldn’t be SG1.

And to add injury to insult, most or all of these refs are far
better than Riley who was vastly overrated and very lucky to get
where he did. In fact most of the time he was 💩

Perhaps that is why he is managing the appointments of newcomers
differently to when he was in that position.
