Shrewsbury v Gillingham SAM ALLISON
DIR By: voice
Date: August 28, 2021, 4:43 pm

Three sent off including a Shrewsbury goalkeeper after a
touchline bust up causing a melee- Paul Raynor, assistant
manager of Gills Red Carded too.
Not seen it but would be interested in the views of those that
did watch it
Afters for both clubs must be a possibility

The melee seemed to be sparked when the referee failed to send
off a Shrewsbury player for a second yellow. When the Gillingham
bench pointed this out to the 4th official the Shrewsbury bench
lost their temper.

Steve Evans was actually blameless on this occasion and did not
get involved. I know that because Steve is easily spotted in a
crowd [emoji56]
Difficult to see who was or who was not involved, but red card
to the sub goalie on the touchline was more than justified.
Difficult too to determine whether Sam could or should have done
more, but Sam, the AR on the dugout side and the 4O were all
clearly watching what was going on from different angles, so
probably got the red cards right. An unseemly scene which is not
needed in football, particularly at this level where TV cams are
present and young players copy their favourites.

Haven't seen it yet, but how Evans has the temerity to question
the behaviour of another dugout is beyond me.

True - but in fairness to Gillingham they were asking why a
player who had just received a 2nd caution was not being sent
off, picked up late by the officials.
Raynor must have said something but the reserve GK will
definitely be receiving a few games up in the stand

Watching the game it was clear that Alison was annoying both
sets of players by his unpredictable and random awards of free
kicks. He seemed to me to be uninterested, particularly in what
used to be called the 9/5 confrontations. Towards the end
tempers were short on a hot day and problems became more likely
but he did nothing to alter his style and get on top of flash
points. I don’t suppose we will ever know what caused the
initial fracas between two players in isolation but from the
stand it was hard to justify yellows when punches appeared to br
thrown on both sides, straight reds would have avoided the
further problems. Missing that the home team player had already
been cautioned was at best careless but the Gillingham manager
could have sorted it by a quiet word to the 4O, not by running
aggressively to the touch line.
I did not see the goalkeeper incident but reports from those who
did were that the home team manager went towards the away
manager and the assistant manager moved towards him. In the
circumstances and bearing in mind the home manager’s health
problems the keeper stepped in to protect him.
A poor match by the referee who was most unimpressive and with
any luck will not rise any further, ,although as in life it’s
not only cream thar rises to the top. I would love to see the
match observers report on this performance and surely it is
about time that at least the markings were published if not a
brief synopsis. I believe there is a brief video on the blue
and amber website.

Completely unnecessary comments, sounds almost as if you have an
issue with Mr Allison on a personal level. Not the type of
things that should be being posted on here IMO.
