Referees who departed early in their final season (1980 onwards)

As a companion piece to the thread on referees who did not
officiate in their final season, the following referees only
refereed League matches for part of their final season on the
List. The month of their final League game is provided for
reference. Apologies for the wonky formatting as this is copied
and pasted from a table and it doesn't seem possible to
reproduce the table's format:

Some of these referees were in their scheduled final season
before retirement on age grounds but others were much younger.
Injury and resignation again account for the great majority of
these early departures.

Thank you (again) LF for this latest list.
Looking further back (again), the following referees left the
list early:
Messrs R Darlington, A Dimond, R Johnson, R Judson, D Lyden, R
Perkin, D Turner and H Williams.
I also have question marks over Messrs M Kerkof, T Reynolds, K
Ridden, I Smith, and K Sweet.
Understandably those who died in service have been omitted (as
you have done LF as well).

You're right AT that all those referees from before 1980
departed early in their final season. I'll have details soon of
those from the 1960s and 1970s that I know about plus those (and
there seem to be very few) who didn't referee at all in their
final season. Those earlier details aren't so definitive as the
records are less complete, especially more than fifty years ago,
but should still prove useful.

I seem to recall that Danny Lyden resigned from the list as he
wasn't happy about a disciplinary crackdown which league
referees were expected to enforce leading to a big increase in
cautions issued.
Mike Kerkhof I believe left the list through injury, perhaps
slightly unusually as he was an army PT instructor.

George Flint, Pit Baths Superintendent at Linby Colliery, and
buried in the churchyard there, resigned after a match in which
his timekeeping was called into question, but before a FL
hearing took place. George said to friends that he'd dropped his
watch in the mud...
Apparently the FL notification asked him to explain himself over
certain recent events. George took that to mean that they'd
caught up with him fiddling hotel receipts from a stay in the
North East which he'd claimed for, but hadn't had, so resigned
before the FL could question him.
One of those who called a spade a fookin spade, he is still
missed around Kirkby in Ashfield.
