Bankes and Jones make their first appearances of the season (and
also Wade Smith) - otherwise a completely predictable set of
appointments. Still no sign of any of the new referees, while 5
referees are on 3/3 appointments.

And of the 5 referees who have received 3 appointments out of 3,
Oliver and Taylor's 3 games have all been broadcast live on
SS/BT!

We're yet to see Hooper, Kavanagh, Friend and the 4 new referees
in the middle. Friend has a Championship game this week so I
guess he's had a minor injury. I would guess Kavanagh is
injured as he's being quite heavily utilised on VAR with 5
matches in the first 3 rounds. I think this is Hooper's first
appearance of any sort in the Premier League this season, so he
may be on the comeback from illness/injury.
I do hope Oliver and Taylor will be given weekends off soon -
both have matches in Europe, and Oliver had one last week, yet
both have been used the following weekend. All that travelling,
combined with weekly PL appointments is surely going to lead to
burnout/dips in form if they're not careful. There really is no
excuse when they have so many referees in the group.

I couldn't agree more greeny!
Another thing that flumoxes me is officials acting as VAR and
then referee on consecutive days. Would it not be easier for an
official to be VAR Saturday and Sunday and just chill in London
overnight?
On the subject of VAR, interesting that Harrington, Salisbury
and Brooks have not acted in this role yet. I assume they have
yet to receive their training?

Brooks was a VAR when it first got introduced, so he's had some
experience of VAR already, but may need a refresher.
Harrington and Salisbury both have 4th official appointments
down south when they are both northern based, so I'm wondering
if some training will be going on at Stockley Park.

Pawson flies back from Serbia on Friday, straight off to
Liverpool for 4O duties and then 4O duties at Burnley the next
day. Ok 4O isn't as taxing as being referee but standing around
trying to keep focus and babysit the managers while tired and
stiff from travelling can't be much fun either. They should all
be given 1 of 2 weekends off completely if they have a mid week
Europe game. It's not just the travel and living out of a
suitcase away from home for a week or more there's the
disruption to their training schedules and giving their bodies
time to recoup.

I was really excited when the 4 reds were promoted. There will
be lots of changes this season i told myself - no more stupid
trips for VAR and then reffing, a rest after European games etc.
But alas, the real world stepped in- PGMOL has not change and I
am resigned to the fact that they never will

What is the point of promoting the new refs if their not going
to get a game especially with the prem taking a break for World
Cup qualifiers I thought at least one of them would feature in
match day 3
Mostly same refs apart from Jones and moss so it would be nice
after the World Cup qualifiers to see a new ref listed
Salisbury,gillet,Harrington or possibly brooks
