Blackpool 2-4 Manchester United
The final against Blackpool has been herald by many experts as
the ‘Greatest Cup final of all time.’ Everywhere you looked
their was true class in both teams, with United having the likes
of skipper Johnny Carey, Jack Rowley, and Stan Pearson among
their ranks, whilst Blackpool had Stanley Matthews, Stan
Mortensen, and skipper Harry Johnston in their team.
The programme list the match officials as
Referee: C J (Jack) Barrick from Northampton
Assistants: Reg Leafe and W Ling (Cambridgeshire) ARE THESE
CORRECT?

Man United
Rowley 28, 70
Pearson 80
Anderson 82

Cyril John "Jack" Barrick (Little Billing, Northampton,
Northamptonshire)
Reginald James "Reg" Leafe (Nottingham, Nottinghamshire)
William "Bill" Ling (Stapleford, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire)
Both lines reffed the final later in their careers - 1955 & 1951
respectively
Ling also reffed the 1954 World Cup Final
