Trevor Kettle Sunderland v Oxford.

I hope Mrs Kettle has a nice cup of tea waiting and his slippers
next to his armchair when he gets home tonight from Sunderland
as he certainly deserves some matrimonial TLC.
He certainly has had his work cut out today in a "fiesty" game
both on and off the field and I know from reading other posters
he sometimes gets the mucky end of the stick [ and I suppose
justifiably] he just about got everything spot on this
afternoon.
Basically the Oxford tactic was if it is a red and white shirt
and it moves then trip it up and break the play.It was
successful to a point until Mr Kettle had quite enough and out
came the YC [ one,two and three].
Second half there was a "strikers tackle" on a Sunderland
defender and as the player had already been booked he was asked
by Mr Kettle if he would run him a nice hot bath.
An Oxford player then committed a foul before rolling around
and feigning injury trying to delay the free kick which did not
fool the referee and he allowed the free kick to be taken and
Sunderland scored.
"Mr Kettle.Please do your job correctly" said the manager and
he was duly red carded.
Sunderland scored a third through captain Max Power in injury
time and [ after he had been verbally abused through the game by
the Oxford bench] celebrated in the front of their dugout.
Cue ructions at the end.
The U's are not happy teddies tonight.

A classic case of you reap what you sow. I think he was pretty
lenient and tried to keep the game flowing in the early stages
but Oxford resorted to little niggly fouls so something had to
give. It's a pity really because they look a decent team.

Robinson and his gang behave like that in most games if they
aren't getting their own way.

Robinson and his gang behave like that in most games if they
aren't getting their own way.

To be honest after nearly five hours after the final whistle
they are going on like petulant children.The manager apparently
called Mr Kettle a "Useless C..." which is why he was RCd [ that
was picked up on the audio] and accusations are flying around
about an assault on an Oxford player in the tunnel at half time
that all three officials would have seen clearly as they waited
their turn to walk to the dressing rooms was to be reported to
the Police.
Sad because I am sure as a club OUFC are above all of that
nonsense.

Agree, but Robinson behaved similarly at MK Dons and Charlton.

The decision to allow the free kick to be taken quickly was
great, the player gets up argues with the ref and then decides
he is so injured he has to roll around.
The Oxford fans disagree and want him removed from refereeing
completely even sharing a petition.

If you ever need a referee with a job to do Trevor’s the man -
“tin hat”on if needed to battle through the match and the
“games” club officials and players to deceive the other team and
officials.
Trevor gets a hard time I see on this forum but I’m sure the
powers above know if they have a bun fight on there hands and
need a man to get the job done they know who to call on!
May not be pretty to watch but still needs refereeing and if the
clubs and players are not cleaver enough or wise enough to know
the official refereeing it and then complain about the outcome
why not advise the players in advance that he will have his
integrity left in tact when the match is over so don’t test it!
Well done Trev - enjoy your Easter weekend as I’m sure he’ll not
be loosing any sleep over this game.

Kettle was, or maybe still is, a serving Officer in the RAF. He
will have seen and experienced far worse things than loutish
behaviour from some pathetic prima donna football coaches and I
am sure will not be in the least bit concerned about their silly
antics.
Kettle has been on the Football League getting on for 20 years.
He is a stickler and doesn't have a particular 'matey'
personality so has never been a favourite among the Clubs. I
have seen him a couple of times in the last two or three years
and his movement about the pitch certainly gives the impression
of being laboured and not particularly quick. However, he must
pass the fitness test and he is referee who never shirks an
unpopular decision. I have not always been convinced that his
decision making is as accurate as some but it's good to see a
referee who will not be bullied.

Some serious allegations made if the police were called.
Sounded like a very challenging afternoon for Kettle, plus I’m
sure the FA will be getting involved in what happened.

On Quest last night, while opining that Kettle didn't referee
the game too well (Not sure how they come to that conclusion off
a few highlights), they did actually concede he got the
decisions that seemed to upset Oxford correct.
