Law 2: shinguards – these must be made of a suitable material to
provide reasonable protection and covered by the socks
Not the best-defined Law in the book. Which referee is going to
make their own life difficult by putting the back up of a player
and their team mates by taking a firm stance on this before a
game.

I have to say I would have very little sympathy if he ended up
with a broken leg or bad stud marks the whole way down his
shins. Football is his livelihood, shin pads are for his
protection to try and minimise damage in the event of a kick to
the shin. Why would a player not do everything possible to
protect themselves? Just seems so stupid to me.

They may as well take the requirement for wearing shinpads out
of the LotG - a lot of players clearly don't care anyway!

Cricket in this country has gone down the route of requiring all
batsmen to wear helmets and for those helmets to be of a certain
standard. The shinguard law, if it is to exist, should demand
that they meet a particular kitemark-type standard.

Problem is, who enforces that? Cricket helmets and pads are on
the outside of kit so east to see, can't really see it being
viable that referees ask players to pull down their socks so
that they can check for a kite mark on their shin pads.
I agree it is a problem, but my view is it is a player choice.
As long as they have pads of some kind on, if they are stupid
enough to risk their careers by wearing tiny ones that is their
choice.

By the size of the shape it looks like he is using Nokia 3310's.
So In any terms he is Indestructible as it will cause more
damage to the opponent rather than himself.

They're custard creams according to him on his twitter account.
I'm glad he sees it as a joke, I just wonder if he still will if
he sustains a serious injury because of them one day.

No doubt when grassroots football restarts there will be players
copying this. Something to look forward to.
