This last weekend saw Özer Özdemir of Denizlispor was sent off
for this awful challenge on Sunday.

There was also a reference from Wycombe'd twitter feed that
referenced a challenge by Wycombe's Jason Cousins against
Doncaster 25 years ago:

Incredibly he got a second yellow by the looks of it - was Mike
Pierce the referee.
I dare say there are much worse around though, and maybe some
not getting the red card they deserve.

You don't see many ARs of that stature these days ! !

2nd yellow! That's shocking even by the good old day standards!

Looks like Michael Pierce, small chap with a moustache. No idea
on the AR. Dreadful red card tackle, even by the standards of
the day.

Definitely Mike Pierce - usually never to slow to brandish a
card. Perhaps it did not look so bad from his angle?

Possibly even more surprising than the fact that only a yellow
card was shown was the reaction of the players. If that
happened now I suspect so many would have piled in that there
would have been a near riot.

The only angle that wouldn't have looked so bad from was the
other side of the stand.

Terrible tackle, or was it an assault?
What I loved about the wholle incident is that the Doncaster
player just got up and carried on after the altercation.
Same thing happens these days and we would have been deafened by
the scream, he would have rolled around a lot holding his face,
irrespective of the fact that the the impact was at the top of
the leg/hip area, obviously whilst keeping an eye on the
officials to ensure that they could see how badly injured he was
and, once the charade had been acted out, he would have
continued playing.
Definitely don't want to go back to nasty tackles like that,
however, it would be refreshing if the victims of much less
horrific incidents would stop all the play acting, it really is
getting tiresome at all levels of the game.

I don't know what's worse - the challenge or the Wycombe players
arguing about the sanction!!
