Stuart Attwell Southampton v BHA

Just watched this entertaining match on TV extremely well
refereed by Stuart Attwell whose decision making was good,
fitness very good and overall control, without showing any
cards, excellent. Not the hardest match in the world to referee
but I've seen straightforward matches mucked up by poor
refereeing enough times in the past. Attwell has now become a
very safe pair of hands in SG1 I believe.

Another great game by Attwell today. He showed enough authority
without booking anyone although one foul in arc by Veltman
should've been carded imo. I always reckon Stuart Attwell is one
of the fittest refs with great performance most of the time this
season. He deserves more big games to prove himself.

I think Attwell and Pawson have been our two best this season!
Taylor has been decent, Friend has went about his business with
a minimum of fuss. Oliver has been ok, but there have been quite
a few penalties awarded by him that I feel have been harsh - not
a poor enough decision to be overturned by VAR, but also not
penalties that VAR would give if Oliver hadn’t!
It would be great to see him rewarded towards the end of the
season. Maybe FA Cup semi final for Attwell as reward?

If we assume that Pawson gets the Final it would indeed be good
to see Attwell ( and perhaps Tierney or Kavanagh ) get a Semi
Final in the FA Cup. Hitherto though, Semi Final appointments
have been extremely 'safe' and so I can't see anyone much other
than Taylor, Oliver, Atkinson or Dean getting one. Marriner
perhaps but not likely I think......and then, inexplicably,
there is always Moss ! I do hope I'm wrong though and they
appoint someone who hasn't already had the Final.

Don’t forget Championship Playoff Final! ;D
I think Pawson has been reserved for one of the cup finals this
season, that means two of Attwell/Tierney/Kavanagh will get
another one and the playoff final imo. I would love to see
Attwell’s appearance in one of these finals.

As you have mentioned Elleray TTFL. I was watching the Rugby 6
Nations, Scotland v Ireland, this afternoon refereed by the
Frenchman Roman Poite. Is it my eyesight ? but I think Poite
looks uncannily like a bearded David Elleray.

Indeed the resemblance is striking...
Attwell has been very good this season, it’s just such a shame
Lord Elleray made a dogs dinner of his development. How can
someone of his experience hash it up?
He could have been elite by now had his tutelage been of a
superior quality.

Attwell clearly always had the potential to be a very good
referee. The fact that he has now become one is down to
something for which there can be no substitute...experience. I
am very surprised that someone like David Elleray did not seem
to appreciate and act upon this when guiding Attwell's early
career.
In most walks of life, when a whizz-kid breaks onto the scene,
the most important question is , are they whizzing or kidding?
For a mentor to confuse and conflate potential with achievement
is a very poor thing to do, almost a dereliction of mentoring
responsibility.
