When you are 35 yards behind play, and central, no angle, you
cannot make the call. The referee does not even appear in
screen shot he is so far away.
If anybody is bored enough ,check the taking of Southampton
penalty kick, Moss, adopts a position at the 18
Southampton 10 is actually ahead of Moss at the taking of the
kick, so much so that Moss will not have been able to see the
kick being taken! 10 so far in the box he runs ahead of the
referee!!!

First of all i commend foden in his actions.
However Once again referees do not encourage honesty, thus
diving and trying to con officials will continue unabated, and
as such officials reap what they sow.

100% agree.
You dive, you over-react, you scream like a baby and you get a
decision in your favour.
You try to stay on your feet and play the game and a clear (very
clear, no VAR needed, just a decent position and a good pair of
eyes) foul goes unpunished.
If you were a team manager / coach who's job depends on winning
games, what would you do??
Its hard enough for referees without making it harder with this
nonsense.

Your observation about the Southampton penalty is incorrect
because Adams is not ahead of Moss when the ball is kicked, in
fact, it is debatable whether he is actually in the area at that
point.
Never mind, it could all have been sorted by VAR if there was an
offence.
Get rid of the onfield officials, they are not needed because
everything they do is questioned. Do it all with VAR and you
instantly rid the game of the onfield referees who masquerade as
players as well as having less opinions on what is or is not
actually happening.
Has the game change so much that we really need 6 officials?

You don't need to post pictures for my benefit because I have
gone through the video clip frame by frame and know that the
exact moment the ball was kicked Adams was still behind John
Moss. One second later there were several players in the box,
however, I have no problem at all about this penalty.
To be honest, it is not worth nit picking because it is all
consigned to history and the penalty was scored, no matter what
we think about it.

The non-penalty award when the GK fouled Foden was really poor.
(a view expressed by Mark Halsey incidentaly). If VAR is there
for good reason other than highly marginal offsides and the odd
VC off the ball, it has to intervene for errors like this.
Surely Madley will have looked at various angles which clearly
showed it was a foul.
There will be occasions when the referee will be a distance from
an incident in the penalty area. Sometimes it may be poor
positioning or lack of anticipation or focus, but it could
happen when a long ball is played into the area and an offence
quickly occurs. Unless the AR can help him, it can be difficut
for even the best sprinter in those circumstances with the
referee too central and too far away.
Whether that's any excuse for Jon Moss, I'm not sure, as I don't
recall the build up to the Foden incident. It doesn't excuse
VAR Madley though, does it?

Debatable doesn’t come into it. This was a clear and obvious
error which VAR is supposed to be there to correct and quite
frankly failed.
You can blame Moss - and let’s face it he gets more than his
fair share of criticism on here, some of it unjustified in my
opinion - but the real culprit undoubtedly is Andy Madley who
had access to umpteen camera angles and still didn’t see
anything wrong. I find it staggering that he came to this
conclusion and as others have said it makes a mockery of VAR,
especially when less obvious pens are given and we spend hours
watching borderline decisions about offside. This could not have
been more clear cut.
I await an explanation from the PGMOL - whoops, me sees a flying
pig!
Full marks to Foden, a rarity among his peers, in trying to keep
on his feet and not go down; honesty didn’t do him any good
sadly but morally he cannot be faulted. There are others who are
serial offenders - and we all know who they are - who would have
gone down whether touched or not to con the ref. In fact I could
name a couple who would probably be still flying through the air
or collapsing in a heap even now!

Not discussing something that's happened because, "well it's
happened" is not a good recipe for learning from past mistakes.
