Why 'obviously'? There was contact and it didn't seem one where
Sterling made a meal of it as sometimes happens.

While this isn't a grammar site, the use of 'obviously' makes
PhiltheRef's remark read (to me) as more judgemental that simply
stating "they didn't intervene so, they deemed it not worthy of
intervention." That's why I queried, but your reply doesn't
throw any light on my original question.

For whatever reason the VAR did not deem it worthy of
intervention. Perhaps it did not fall into their "not a clear
and obvious error" criteria. Only the VAR operator knows why
they did not intervene but it is within the list of incidents
that they would have looked at.
