       Referee kits / colours

I know it’s been mentioned on here recently but it is noticeable
how often the referee is not in the right colour, despite
       choices being available!
Really isn't difficult, whether it’s the officials deciding (or
league officials in advance), this really should be done
properly in our top division. Definitely don’t see this often at
       UEFA level.
First 3 games (out of 4) on MOTD last night showed poor
       practice.
       SheffU - white/red
       GK - yellow
       Villa - black
       GK - orange
       Ref - yellow !
       (Available - purple, green)
       Burnley* - claret [*corrected!]
       GK - green
       Leicester - white
       GK - black
       Ref - black !
       (Available - yellow)
       Palace - blue/red
       GK - pink
       ManU - white / black
       GK - yellow
       Ref - yellow !
       (Available - green, purple)

Just one observation for me and that is that West Ham did not
play Leicester last night, however, I watched the match live and
never even considered the colour that the officials wore but I
       see your point.

I think they meant Burnley (same colours!).
I'm pretty sure the referees are told which colour to wear, so
it's not really their fault. That said, I personally think it's
less important to avoid clashes with the keeper than with the
outfield players, but if there is a colour which is different to
all the players and GK kits, that should be clearly be chosen.

Agree avoiding outfield clash is key, but if there’s a spare
colour available, it obviously should be used. Most other
countries use the full 5 shirts in the range (we seem to only
ever pick 4) but it’s usually no issue. The law is quite clear
but seemingly ignored these days. Unsure why?

Yes the law is there but, leaving the law aside, I cannot
recall any incident of any note involving a gk being mistaken
for ref ( lets use them both wearing black as the example), so,
on the face of it, its no big deal
Plenty refs when questioned on it say “ cant see me jumping up
and catching too many crosses today”.
At elite level, its also very rare the ref goes into the 6, and,
rare he goes into the 18 during open play

This is all true. The only really possible situation I could
envisage are those rare occasions when a GK comes up to the
opposing penalty box during a very late corner to his team.
But, if there is a colour available to match officials which
clashes with no-one on the pitch then it just seems incredibly
       perverse not to choose it.

       Simple solution...
No teams to be allowed to play in yellow so that the ref always
has to wear said yellow colour
       😂😂😂😂😂

This was never a problem in the past. Referees wore black and
teams didn't. The only exception seemed to be when Scotland
played, and the ref would wear either white or red. Even
goalkeepers didn't tend to wear black, except Lev Yashin.
I refereed basketball for many years where referees all wore
grey. No teams were allowed to wear grey and so there was never
a problem. It seems now that football kits get more gaudy and
ridiculous all the time, and referees have been subjected to the
       same madness.

It is more of a blue colour, on Nike it is listed as Hyper
Turquoise. Michael Oliver wore it in the last game between
Arsenal and Man Utd. (for example)
