Stuart Atwell Chelsea - Man United

Very surprised that after OFR a penalty wasn't awarded. Met the
criteria for handball on a few counts IMO, correct intervention
by VAR for me. Would love to hear the conversation between
referee and VAR would clear up the rationale instantly.

It’s nearly 3 years since Chelsea last conceded a penalty at
home and easy to see why. Clear handball should have been a
given

I disagree I think at beginning of season it would have been a
penalty but under the current laws regarding handball it was
supportable either way
I think Attwell has handled the game brilliantly so far ,
tackles have flown in he’s played great advantages and displayed
great fitness has demonstrated a great rapport with the players

The law hasn't changed and I don't think any change in
interpretation that was brought in makes that not a penalty. Arm
raised above shoulder, away from silhouette of the body, ball
isn't coming from a short distance at speed I can't fathom why a
penalty isn't awarded.
Other than that I agree, very good general performance from
Atwell.

Best half i have seen from this referee, a refreshing change.

Let’s be honest, Lord Elleray ruined Attwell at a young age
pushing him too hard too fast.
Now we have an official who is living up to the billing he had
many years ago before Lord Elleray got involved.
Thoughts?

The billing he is living up to being a steady, solid PL referee
without being exceptional? If so I agree.

A exceptional performance by Attwell let the game flow cautioned
when he needed to and was always up with play the best
performance by far that I have seen from Attwell especially in a
high profile match hope he gets a share of them next season

The Chelsea manager said he watched the penalty shout on an
iPad. That’s not allowed is it?
Why aren’t they cautioning players crowding around the monitor?

I just don't think there is any need for VAR to get involved
there, and if they hadn't no one would have even been discussing
this. At the time there wasn't a single appeal from United
players, the appeals were from Chelsea players who though
Greenwood had handled it.
For me this is the level of forensic involvement that isn't good
for VAR and I am pleased that Attwell had the courage to stand
by his decision.
