       Mason and Gauzere

After today’s debacles maybe it would bring a modicum of comfort
for the majority of sport loving fans if 27th Feb 2021 was the
day which marked the career end of both PL’s worst referee and
       World Rugby’s worst referee
Would it be too much to hope for?

The similarities between Wales first try and Mason’s howler are
ironic. Both relate to restarting the game after a foul and
whether the defending side were ready. Perhaps Southampton’s
disallowed goal at Leeds was another case in so far as attacking
side saw an opportunity, defending side were vulnerable.
Marriner at least waited, checking that everyone was ready
before blowing. Wales first try imho is a 50:50 call as I think
England never hurried to get into position to defend the quick
penalty expecting a shot at goal and therefore were caught out.
Either way, restart was messy. Wales second try incidentally was
       a knock on.
As for the future of the referees? It is not ours to wish that
they are dropped. They will know this morning they have dropped
clangers and will feel bad about it. There will be consequences
but for Mason, there have been too many mistakes recently and
clearly trust between him and managers must have been weakened
       further. Not good.

As much as its been obvious for years Mason is nowhere near the
standard required for elite football, it is sad to read a fellow
       referee craving for his demise.
If it is soon decided that he will not be retained, that is one
       thing
To actually seemingly take pleasure from it, is another thing
       altogether.
Just briefly on Gauzere, upon Farrell approaching him, in a
respectful manner to query the first incident, the ref goes. “
please, please, i talk first”.......which he then does, then
       shoos Farrell away, rudely imo.
He has opened a door for dialogue then abruptly closed it again
in Farrells face, had the ref said something like, “ this is how
it is”, then ok.......but yes, the ref has not come out of this
       too well.

Not too much to hope for but don't build up your hopes; I doubt
       it will happen.
Impressive to se Rugby's code of not publicly berating a referee
on live media being adhered to by Eddie Jones and Owen Farrell.
The interviewer threw them the baited hook to start criticising
Gauzere but although they must both have been seething, it is a
bait they commendably did not rise to. It's a pity Gauzere did
not show similar courtesy when Farrell, perfectly reasonably and
permissibly as Captain, tried to make a point to him.

Respectively, Gauzere tells Farrell to talk to his players
"because there's too many penalties" and takes time off to allow
this to happen. Wales asks if they can take, he puts time back
on, 2 seconds later gives the try. Not even Usain Bolt could've
run back into position in the time between time coming back on
       and the try being scored.
Made worse by his "I speak you listen" behaviour towards
       England.

Gauzerre was very aggressive in his tone throughout the game,
particularly towards Itoje. I have always worried about and
commented on his man management, today he had no respect from
players and as mentioned in commentary "who knows what will
       happen"

As a matter of considerable urgency, I would strongly recommend
to the international rugby refereeing authorities that they
arrange a tutorial, as soon as possible, on player management
and how to conduct yourself when refereeing for Pascal Gauzere
       from Luke Pearce.

And I could repeat the above post substituting the word football
for rugby and Lee Mason for Pascal Gauzere and Anthony Taylor
       for Luke Pearce

It could, of course, just be a language problem.
I’m quite happy saying a few words in French, but I wouldn’t
want to get embroiled in a full conversation.
When Alain Rolland used to referee French teams, I always
thought they got the rub of the green more. However, on
reflection, I wonder if it was because he could communicate with
them and they weren’t giving away silly penalties.

In football International referees are required to speak a quite
high level of English, is it not the same in rugby?
UEFA & FIFA seminars/training camps are all held in English.
