The way he reacted to the protests by starting to shout and wag
his finger at players like an angry schoolteacher dealing with 7
year old kids was not satisfactory either

I have a feeling this topic may break the RTR record for most
replies in one thread!
Incidentally PGMOL have come out and said the second whistle was
to stop the play, and that the ball had not crossed the line
which is why VAR ruled it out.

But then what reason has he got in Law for stopping the play?

Now getting annoyed with the commentators not knowing why Mason
awarded a free kick after that penalty miss.

Welbeck takes pen.
Ball bounces back off post and hits him
Lee Mason awards IDFK
Pundit and commentator suggest free kick is for offside
I despair
If I had any hair left I would have pulled it out immediately

Commentators at their finest with the second penalty. Back off
the post and the kicker plays it for the second time so an IDFK
is correctly awarded. A bemused commentary team say it must have
been for Welbeck being in an offside position. I mean what hope
do you have in the world with that kind of wisdom being imparted
across the globe...... ;D

Radio 5 Live co-comms picked up the reason and explained it
pretty well right away.

Without a shadow of a doubt this has got to be Mason’s final
season. There was a time (early 2010s) when I thought he had
become a rather established safe pair of hands in SG1, but the
last couple of seasons he has been way way way below par.

Lee Mason had an excellent game in 2012 in the League Cup game
between Chelsea and Manchester United.
The game was the second meeting in 3 dats between the teams, the
game before, Chelsea reported Clattenburg for supposed language
used to their players.
This was the last time, of few, I was impressed with this
referees performance.

Only saw the last 35 minutes so missed the 'fiasco' of the
disallowed goal. From what I'm reading, why would Mason blow
his whistle a second time because the defending team weren't
ready, if that was the reason? Surely, having conceded a free
kick, it's the responsibility of the defending team to be ready,
especially when the first whistle went. Brighton only
themselves to blame missing 2 penalties.
Sounds dreadful anyway. Have to say it's in marked contrast to
the earlier game which was a good watch, well refereed, without
any major controversy or noticeable dissent. I thought West Ham
were unfortunate not to get a point in some ways.
