Tobias Stieler Atlanta vs Real Madrid

I can see why he is highly thought of I’ve been impressed with
him, good fitness his running style reminds me of Luis Medina
Cantalejo , his foul detection has been spot on the RC was spot
on and he has an air of authority about him, at Half time an
Atlanta player walked off with him no doubt asking about the RC
and Stieler seemed to give his explanation and was acknowledged
with respect

I agree he has a good presentation. I think a YC would have been
fully supportable as the ball was definitely running away from
the attacker IMO. I also think a red is totally supportable and
was my instinct too on first viewing. A perfect example of a
50/50 call where you couldn't say definitively the referee would
be wrong either way, correct for VAR not to intervene.

I totally understand why he showed a RC to Freuler but YC should
be more reasonable. Red was too harsh for that situation in CL
cause Freuler aimed for the ball and he was not the last
defender. I don’t know if it is a clear and obvious error but
imo Bastien Dankert should advise Stieler going to RRA. Just a
harsh call for Atlanta.

I saw the highlights and he presented himself well, kept up
with play well and was just brilliant. The RC was imo 100%
correct, had he not fouled him he was 1 on 1 with the keeper,
clearly he didn't need any thinking time as he went straight to
his back pocket. My initial thought was red card.

VAR can only intervene on a clear and obvious error. This wasn't
so Bastian Dankert was correct in staying silent.

Understand that. My point is that RC is a correct call but a bit
harsh for Atlanta. For me YC should be more reasonable and
acceptable.

Remove the foul from the equation and the attacker's next touch
is a free shot on goal. It's a red card.
