M ATKINSON - Fulham v Sheff U

A perfect appointment for the game... needed a calm performance
in a key game and Atkinson stood out.
All bookings warranted and no need for big brother to step in.

Was very good apart from should have given the Blades a penalty
and sent off the goalkeeper for a horrendous tackle in the last
few minutes.

Almost identical to the Pickford serious foul play that ended
Van Dijk’s season yet VAR didn’t see either incident.
That’s as clear a penalty kick and red card as you will ever
see. Are the Assistants lacking confidence to tell the Referee
what’s happened since they’ve been instructed not to flag even
the most blatant offsides?
Yet more evidence that VAR is unfit for purpose.

I thought a penalty certainly would have been a correct call but
nothing at all like the Pickford challenge to my eye. One leg is
on the ground and the other leg is making a kicking motion which
catches the player with the boot. Pickford I thought lunged with
both feet off the ground and his studs extended towards his
opponent with his legs going around Van Dijk's leg. I agree it
should be a penalty but I don't personally see the two incidents
as that similar.

Is this a joke? He’s let the fulham keeper get away with
attempted murder in the box. He’d be in prison if that wasn’t on
a football pitch. Disgraceful decision from him and VAR.

Don't worry, I believe that attempted murder is still punishable
even if committed on a football pitch so charges might well be
pending.

The VAR clarification as quoted on MoTD that "enough of the ball
was played" will only fuel the fire on tackles that have been
(correctly) punished elsewhere.
As Lineker said, the GK actually touched the ball by accident
with his non dominent foot, whilsy wiping the player out.
Penalty plus at least yellow for me

Personally I thought that was a far more clear cut penalty than
the one Kavanagh awarded in the Merseyside derby and I didn't
think that was incorrect.
Disappointed that Atkinson missed it and VAR chose not to
intervene.

Another clear KMI missed by Atkinson. But he'll be back next
week with Chelsea v Man United.
Other refs have a good game and go missing for a month..

Experience does seems to trump performance for PGMOL at times.
To be fair that doesn't seem to apply to the likes of Mason but
I do agree that if you are/were a FIFA listed referee it seems
you are forever considered reliable regardless of current form.
Or if you're Jon Moss ;D
