To be honest, he was far from that. He retired from the League
in 1976 but by that time he was a local JP and he umpired in the
Lancashire League for many, many years. In addition he was a
tour guide at Old Trafford for Manchester United. He passed away
in 2007.

We have a referee in Hungary, Iványi Zoltán who can be a great
personality on the pitch. He is a wise old head and a safe
steady pair of hands the majority of the time. On occasion when
a player is throwing a pathetic strop, you know like they do
when they don't get a free kick for their dive or whatever, he
will take the mickey out of them. One player who was having a
tantrum was greeted with him shrugging his shoulders in a very
over inflated way while doing a trout pout face! The player
looked at him, his jaw literally dropped and he just burst out
laughing. Another time in response to a tantrum, he stood there
waving his arms about and stamping his foot, again the player
just burst out laughing. There's a few similar moments from him
& every single time it results in he and the players laughing.
I'd not recommend it for any ref but he's very popular as a
referee and so well respected that he can get away with the
occasions that he does it. It's not every game, he picks his
moments very carefully and it never fails to diffuse the
situation. He has an excellent rapport with players in general &
his more normal man management is top notch. When he does call
one wrong players tend to just accept it, they know it's a
genuine error. He & Solymosi Péter (who is much calmer but has
a great range of facial expressions to convey his thoughts)
rarely get any dissent. Both are highly praised by managers,
players and the media for their man management, general decision
making and advantages in particular.

I was watching Quest highlights of Morecambe v Salford played in
atrocious conditions on Tuesday night. Right at the end of the
game, ref Seb Stockbridge controversially disallowed a Salford
equaliser, and the Salford goalie, who had come up the field,
quite clearly went to Seb with his colleagues and stuck his head
towards Seb, earning a yellow card for his actions. OK, Seb
could and should perhaps have issued a red card earning the
goalie a 3-match ban but, as the Quest pundits rightly pointed
out, what was the difference compared with Darren Drysdale's
situation where he is facing a more lengthy ban or worse for a
momentary lapse of composure in the face of an aggressive
attitude towards him?

Statement on a backdated suspension for Drysdale
‘
An independent Regulatory Commission has given Darren Drysdale a
back-dated suspension and warning as to his future conduct for a
breach of FA Rule E3.
The match official admitted that his behaviour during the 90th
minute of an EFL League One tie between Ipswich Town FC and
Northampton Town FC on Tuesday 16 February 2021 amounted to
improper conduct.
The suspension, which ran from 19 February 2021 to 10 March
2021, and warning were imposed by the independent Regulatory
Commission during a subsequent hearing and its written reasons
are available below.

Well, just about the best outcome Drysdale could have expected
or hoped for.
What a charming piece of work Alan Judge has shown himself to
be.
I hope that as a result of this there will be some campaign
which focuses on the frankly appalling abuse match officials
sometimes endure and instructs them to eradicate it by the
sanctions available to them. How on earth can referees at grass
roots level hope to avoid having vile comments directed at them
when at the highest levels of the game nothing is done to stop
it. This is a timely wake up call for proper action to be taken
and any weasel pleading of "industrial language" etc firmly
rejected.

Why on earth was Judge not sent off,that sort of language should
not be tolerated,the yellow card was for simulation

The written reasons are well worth a read. They are astonishing
for two reasons:
1. The words used by Alan Judge. If that does not warrant a red
card for OFFINABUS then nothing does.
2. The FA's role in the case is amateurish - and that is being
kind.
Darren Drysdale should not have done what he did, but if our
referees have been so emaciated that they simply cannot issue a
red card for such direct, personal and virulent abuse then the
only surprise is that this has not happened sooner, and more
often.
