with his friend Dave.. won the final.. Impressive

Yes, and a pointless answer on ....... sailing! Programme was
recorded pre-covid and Darren said he wanted to take his
children to Florida or Disneyland. One wonders whether he has
yet to take them. £1500 shared between Darren and Dave, was
£12,500 the day before but not to be sniffed at. Darren came
over as a quiet, knowledgeable and personable man and good to
see him winning.

I tend to tune in for the last ten minutes just before the News
and watch to see whether the contestants win the prize. I
thought to myself, that chap looks familiar but couldn't place
him ( such a different context of course ) until Darren said
something about the Laws of Association Football and then I
twigged who it was. I agree, he came over in a very pleasant way
and I think it was he who came up with what proved to be the
winning answer of Shirley Robertson. The money prize on the show
is incremental and had been won very recently so the prize fund
wasn't huge but still good to win.
I have noticed that one of the question categories is sometimes
International Referees and Umpires; it would have been amazing
if that had come up for Darren and yet he managed very well
without it.
I wonder when this was originally filmed? Clearly pre Covid

A friend of mine also won on POINTLESS when appearing with his
son.His episode aired two and a half years after the recording.

I wonder whether that was in fact a second showing of that
particular episode. As others have noted, with Pointless, you
tend to see the same contestants and same questions again and
again. We should be seeing again the episode soon which involved
naming PL refs who had red carded more than 30 players in their
careers, pointless answers including Halsey and Big Phil. And
Darren will no doubt be reappearing before long. I took a look
and last week's episodes were recorded in MMXX, 2020 in other
words, presumably before the Covid pandemic put paid to studio
audiences. It was nice that Darren got a mention on MOTD later
the same evening after running the line in an FA Cup tie.
