On a bit of a lighter note I am now regretting guessing Lee
Mason refereeing West Ham v Sheffield UNited in predict a ref
this week. What a waste of a prediction 🙈

Surely if the police and authorities can find Twitter users and
the like who have been making racist comments about footballers,
they can do the same in this instance (assuming most of the
threats have surfaced on social media)?

A personal view I will grant you and one for which I am happy to
accept any criticism or dissenting comment
       BUT
I would hope that the issuing of death threats, particularly to
a Referees family might galvanise every single one of us to
publicly express our distaste individually and clearly

Mike Dean is a fantastic referee who clearly is passionate about
the game and his performance, to his own detriment at times. He
didn't have a good week last week, but death threats reflect
badly on everyone of us in football. Everyone must condemn as
widely as possible so these utter raspers get the message it is
not on. Bad things happen when good people nothing and it is
incumbent on all of us to drive these people or preferably their
behaviours out the game we all, including Mike Dean, love. Hope
in time there is a healing process for Mike Dean and his loved
ones and he can get back to doing what he loves.

I'm not having that. What some spotty youth types on his

reflect badly on me or anyone else I know in football.

I think I know what Tweed meant in that post. When a situation
occurs where Mike Dean and his family are receiving death
threats then the world of football and indeed wider society has
something rotten within it. Of course as m'learned friend
nemesis points out, quite correctly, we do not have any
culpability as individuals for what some twisted mind or
complete moron ( actually quite probably both these things )
chooses to do. Our responsibility, if we choose to comment on
it, is to condemn it unreservedly and in the strongest terms.
People who do have culpability, apart from the authors
themselves, are the tech companies who do not do nearly enough
to police their sites because either it's too much bother or it
       will eat into their profitability.

Whatever decisions are made on the pitch should stay on the
pitch. I don’t like hearing about it interfering with personal
life and I send Mike Dean and his family my support. There is no
place for abuse of any kind. It is in the past and I’m now
focused on the rest of the season
       [emoji122]
We need more of this from players and pundits actually who are
always happy to slate the referee! How many of the pundits who
have often used the phrase "it's the mike Dean show" or similar
have spoken up and condemned the abuse and death threats and
perhaps equally as importantly reflected on their own words as
pundits to realise how much they fuel the flames and encourage
this type of behaviour by doing so?

Well I respect your opinion of course but I can't understand it
unless you believe that in a democracy, where the ruler is the
people, everyone is is implicated when things go wrong. There
is much good work being done to help disaffected and
disadvantaged people not to get sucked in to being on line
trolls. I cannot see how people who are involved in this
difficult and important work in education about the
unacceptability of such behaviour can be said to be part of
those who these despicable threats against the Dean family share
       in being badly reflected upon.

Perhaps I yearn for something not practically possible, if so, I
       regret it.
Lots of individuals and groups have sat and prognosticated about
how unacceptable this and the racism are and how something needs
       to be done about it.
We all, if not know, strongly suspect, that until every right
thinking individual actually does something then progress is
       likely to be very slow.
Would social media organisations be so blase if their
advertisers withdrew or their subscribers stopped doing so.
I expressed disappointment yesterday about the death threats.
The response was a flurry of what I presume to be snowflakes
