Use an AR as an example.
Ball played into penalty area, player goes round keeper, goes
down. Referee goes to indicate no penalty when the AR flags
vigorously for a penalty.
As a referee you now have to be 100% certain you are right, to
stick to your decision as you would hope your mate would only
intervene to prevent you making a mistake. You converse, review
together and make your mind up.
In this case I over ruled AR, cautioned player for dive and was
criticised by the assessor for ignoring the person he thought
had had the better view.
Video replays afterwards showed forward initiated contact and
dived!

I understand your point, but in this instance, yourself and the
AR were able to view this incident once and in full speed. Dean
viewed this multiple times and still got it wrong!

And this sums up the PGMOL:
Guess who the VAR is for West Ham's F.A Cup game at Old Trafford
on Tuesday? Yep the same clown who instructed Mike Dean to go to
the monitor yesterday evening (Lee Mason).

The PGMOL do not make the FA Cup appointments. They are made by
the FA referee committee.
Whilst I agree league appointments should be taken into account,
they are not.

According to The Times, the Dean - Mason combination is to be
reviewed. Referees' chiefs will consider splitting up the
partnership, with the prospect of a 2nd red card imposed by the
same officials being rescinded in consecutive games.
I sincerely hope that Mike Dean does not decide to call it a day
in view of these issues. He is still one of the best and makes
brave decisions that other refs would quite probably duck out
of. It will be interesting to see what combinations we see next
weekend.

Haven't seen that in the Times yet. The Match Report by Ian
Hawkey under the headline 'The deadly duo of Dean and Mason
strike again" is both informative and entertaining. It begins
"Mason and Dean. Much more of this and they'll be a famous as
Torvill and Dean" and I would add about as believable as Pearl
and Dean.

Ah yes, back page of the main part of the paper. I imagine Dean
and Mason will be feeling a trifle uncomfortable this
morning...and actually so they jolly well should. It is always
wrong to seek to justify the unjustifiable and that red card was
not justified. Much better to hold your hands up and say I got
it wrong. What is so difficult for Dean is that he looked at it
multiple times and from different angles and still came to the
wrong decision. I hope he is being helped to show more reliance
on his initial reading of an incident; after all he is usually
one of the best decision makers in the SG1

According to SKY Mr Dean and his family have received death
threats
He has reportedly requested NOT to be appointed to a Prem
fixture this weekend
