I believe Gillett has had Hodskinson and Dermott with him for
the majority of his matches as well. Fingers crossed for him in
taking the next step up, it would be a big first for a
non-english referee to take charge of a Premier League game.

You'll have the Welsh after you for that remark!! ;)

Thanks all for the interesting replies, I get the impression
that Gillett and Brooks are in poll position. Interesting also
about how many places are allocated for SG1 referees and whether
anyone will be promoted because of this.
I've seen Gillett the most of the SG2 referees and I think he is
ready for the PL. At 34 he still has a chance for a good UEFA
career too - bear in mind he was a FIFA referee previously so
has experience of operating in an international environment, as
well as the travel that comes with it, this might seem like a
small thing but I think it would help to adjust to UEFA
refereeing more easily. I would love to know if the PGMOL chiefs
really think Hooper, Moss etc. are better than Gillett. I think
perhaps it is an issue of the contracts that bmb has previously
explained leading to an impossibility for a 'fluid' SG1/SG2.

I watch a lot of championship games as my wife is a Swansea fan,
from what I've seen and my personal opinion is 3 of the 4 are
streets ahead of the others the execption being Robinson who has
already mentioned comes across arrogant some times. If I had to
pick only one to get a trial game I would go for Harrington,
wasn't a fan a couple of years ago he like Robinson came across
as a disciplinarian but his overall officiating and rapport
with players has improved no end.
I will throw another name into the mix. Janes Linnington, safe
pair of hands and is a steady performance. Out of interest would
the incident where he showed a Red Card to the wrong Bentford
player before his assistant corrected him go against him getting
a trial game?

Harrington and Linington are unpredictable and I have seen them
handle many games poorly so definitely not deserving of
promotion IMO!
I would say Brooks is ready to step up. TBH I think the standard
of the majority on SG2 is average at best. I think it’s just as
important that those promoted to SG2 are given to the ones who
deserve it the most.
Paul Howard is definitely one to watch going forward I think.

IMO, as i dont watch a lot, i watch some here and there, of
championship football. The ones I have seen, is that Gillett is
far ahead of the rest, i'm not a fan of John Brooks but you guys
know more than i do. If only one could be promoted this year it
would have to be Jarred Gillett.
On another note, do you think anyone will retire from SG1? I
think Dean, Mason and Moss could do. Maybe even Marriner
