Given the referee is the time keeper, the correct time is what
the referee decides.....
Under duration, allowance is a variable. As with a lot of
laws, the wording can be spun to suit, so by definition, if your
allowance for all time lost is 5 secs, then that is your
allowance.
Ditto if your allowance is 4 mins, so be it.
There is no definitive “correct time”. ( subject to the minimum
obv)

Ah ....... so if, say, 4 minutes is wasted on VAR's examination
of toe positions, a further 2 minutes on substitutions and
another couple on injuries and the referee advises the Fourth
Official to put up "2 minutes" he is in fact correct. Of
course. Thank you for clarifying that.
Rather than debating the semantics of the wording of the Laws,
it is rather more useful to try to discover why these well paid,
reasonably intelligent people cannot complete a simple task with
a better degree of accuracy. Given that the errors invariably
involve playing too little time rather than too much, perhaps
they can't wait to get off the pitch - on a par with skiving
off work early?

"Playing too little time " that was never the case with 'Fergie'
time was it ? The most high profile time issues are when a
referee plays more added time than initially shown on the board,
often for very good reasons because incidents have occurred in
the added time and a goal is scored in the added on to the added
time. There are been quite a few examples of that over the
years.
As to referees "skiving off work early"....rather tongue in
cheek I suspect. Perhaps referees should operate a sort of piece
work and be paid by the minute or else the concept of
'refreshers', which have certainly helped me pay the bills,
might be introduced ! !

Bednarek and David Luiz did not receive red cards for trying to
stop committing fouls. They received them for failing to avoid
making contact with opponents who had obvious goalscoring
opportunities. The contacts were careless and therefore fouls.
[/quote]
How on earth can they possibly be "careless" if Bednarek was
taking care to avoid the contact - that's the opposite of
careless! And any contact was after Martial had started his
dive.

Their Masters have told them to clamp down and eliminate
contact. I think some referees are terrified of being seen to
disobey the diktats and so, whereas in the old days, a player
was given the benefit of any doubt when a sanction was applied,
now it seems any doubt will lead to the greater sanction.

Graham Scott was a very good L1 and L2 referee. Probably OK in
the Championship but the Peter Principle is at work here and he
has been over-promoted. Shame because you couldn't wish to meet
a more decent and pleasant human being....and before someone
indulges themselves, shame for the Premiership Clubs as well.

First point is that Mr Scott suggested that Mr Dean have another
look to confirm ( or otherwise) the card so to blame him is
unfair in the extreme.
Secondly Mr Dean believed that he had got it right.
I have no problem with a Referee making a decision which they
believe is correct. Okay so some might be wrong but without VAR
we would probably never know. The day Refs stop making decisions
will be the day we have killed the game
