One of the rare instances where adding more time on is a
complete waste and lacking common sense. For a game that is 9-0
against 9 men who just want the game to finish, what would be

Or how many people had a bet on 10-0! :D
When Liverpool beat Palace 7-0 in December, there were 4 goals
and 6 substitutions in the second half yet Jon Moss only added 1
minute on - not that anyone seemed bothered.

Lee Mason won't have any teams left to referee soon!
I hope the PGMO/PL don't take too much notice of it. When you
lose 9-0, you can't put too much blame on the referee - and I
don't really know what specifically Lee Mason has done wrong!

Well said! I have been saying the same thing for ages. We keep
hearing that a player 'felt contact' so he 'had the right to go
down'. This nonsense is exactly what is wrong with the game at
top level. But referees subscribe to it, when they should
actually be punishing the players who throw themselves to the
floor after the slightest brush. I absolutely despair at some
of the penalties that are awarded when it is patently obvious
the player is simply trying to deceive the referee.

Lee was referee when they played Villa when they didn't get the
penalty for the Cash handball and also had the goal disallowed
for offside. Mike Dean was on VAR.
Last night Mike was referee and Lee Mason was 4th officials so
he perhaps didn't answer any questions which they asked of him
;D

1 yellow card given in the NBI last night and another in the
early game today for diving. Love too see it. Also a foul was
given after a tackle, which was a foul, but the striker stayed
on his feet and tried his hardest to retain the ball in the
current game on. Ref waited a split second to see if he would
retain the ball, as soon as he didn't he blew and gave the foul.
I dread the introduction of VAR next season to ruin our
imperfect but enjoyable game.

The second comment is, of course, slightly tongue in cheek but
the first is deadly serious and I am staggered that anyone with
any pretence of understanding the game should consider it silly
and lacking in common sense to play a League game to it's full
and proper conclusion. A Cup-tie could be viewed differently.
I'm afraid this is just another example to prove that our
referees, even the good ones, are totally incapable of keeping
time accurately. The sooner this simple but important task is
given to someone else, the better.

I'm beginning to wonder if they can truly be that incapable or
are instructed to keep added time to a minimum

I was involved in a cup tie where the home team won very
comfortably, with a score that actually equalled their club
highest. When I only added 1 minute at the end, instead of
probably 3 or 4 to play I was berated by the manager at the end.
First time I have reported a winning manager.
However, it transpired that the players and management would
have received a bonus had they set a new record.
Play to correct amount of time and you cannot be criticised.

Bednarek and David Luiz did not receive red cards for trying to
stop committing fouls. They received them for failing to avoid
making contact with opponents who had obvious goalscoring
opportunities. The contacts were careless and therefore fouls.

The "ying" to this "yang", however, is that referees do have to
give fouls where they are committed but the player does not go
down. They are not doing this at the moment, so remain
susceptible to the flawed (but very plausible) argument that a
player has to "go down" to get a free kick / penalty.
