L MASON - Southampton v Villa (and VAR)

Here we go again, Big Brother making a crass decision.
What the heck is Mike Dean thinking!? That is the clearest
handball ever by Matty Cash and it definitely looks like hand to
       ball.
Astonishing decision by VAR. Mason not even sent to the VAR
       booth.

A penalty and a red card... it was that simple really. How
brutal was Martin Atkinson’s decision after referring to VAR for
the handball re: Bobby Firmino when you see this *****.
EDIT: Can we please be adults here and post without the need for
       profanity?

Its because it bounced off his thigh onto his arm, had it just
hit the arm it would have been a penalty.

Personally i thought it was a penalty.
Mason (onfield) seemed to immediately point to the chest area.
Dean (var) reviewing came to the opinion there was touch off
some part of the body. If both onfield and var agreed then i
guess there is no reason to go to the screen.
Cant remember where the ball went after it hit cash on the arm,
but didnt the game re-start with an indirect free kick to villa
just outside the six yard box?
Think villa were very lucky on this occasion.
Just seen the incident back again mason at restart raises his
arm and mouths offside hence the restart with an indirect free
       kick.

Stunned an OFR wasn't recommended. I know the interpretation
has changed since the start of the season but when you compare
the penalties given then versus this penalty not being given
today; if you didn't know better you wouldn't think it
was the same season, the same league or heck even the same game!
I am guessing that Dean felt that the ball grazed the leg first
and that the PL have said that if the ball deflects from another
body part onto the hand it is not a foul. That's a total
guess but its the only rationale way I can attempt to explain
this decision. It is this refereeing by numbers approach that is
spoiling VAR in the PL, it shouldn't be a matter of ticking
boxes - yes there are points along the way that can guide you to
the correct decision but focusing on these factors too much
means the big picture view is lost. I would be confident that if
you gave Mike Dean one view of this incident in real time from
the best angle available he would say penalty with little
hesitation. It should be about making fair decisions, penalising
foul play that effects outcomes. Not making sure a list of check
boxes is completed so there can be a theoretical rationalisation
for every decision - however crazy they may appear when we look
       at the bigger picture.
Put simply I think the philosophy is totally skewed and the
       implementation totally inconsistent.

Someone needs to show me the replay of the so called touch
because they’ve shown three angles and there’s no clear evidence
that there was any... a penalty and red card every day of the
       week for me

Some of the decision making from Lee Mason and his detection of
       fouls is appalling.

For me its a penalty and red card. Have watched numerous replays
and still struggling to see the deflection from another part of
Cash's body onto the arm. Would it be fair to suggest that
evan if the ball did come off another part of the body the
penalty should of been awarded because of the unnatural position
of the arm/making the body bigger?
On a whole I thought it was a pretty poor performance from Mason
tonight, very random foul detection, some very soft fouls given
and on more than one occasion found himself in the way of the
       play for me.
