Man Utd v Liverpool

I thought Pawson had a good game. For his flaws in sometimes
being too passive I do appreciate his ability to manage a game
effectively in the background with minimum fuss. I think he
along with Mike Dean, Darren England and Andre Marriner have
been in the top few performers this season for me so far.

First time in ages I have seen him, big improvement, good
movement, calm, clear, confident
Very good game
Bar the Utd winning freekick. Should have went to Liverpool
Utd player grabs then rolls himself over the Liverpool player.
Very clever. But, i want ( expect) the ref to catch it

Good Performance from Pawson, all Cautions spot on, he stayed in
the background and contributed to what was an excellent game of
football also played an excellent advantage for the first
United goal.
I disagree about the free kick for the winning goal, admitted on
first viewing I thought it was soft but after seeing the replay
you can quite clearly see Fabinho knees Cavani in the back of
the leg so for me a very good spot by Pawson.

Free for united correct for me for the contact with the
defenders knee into the back of the united players leg.
One of those that can be seen either way though I feel

I'd have to disagree with anyone that thinks that the free kick
for the winning goal wasn't a free kick. the only thing I'd say
is that it could have been a second yellow card.. To me the
Liverpool player stands no chance of winning the ball and goes
through the back of the Manchester United attacker.. I think
once Pawson deems that a free, a yellow card should follow...

What exactly would you be cautioning him for? It’s clearly never
reckless and it’s not a promising attack as his back is to goal?
I think it’s a soft but perfectly acceptable free kick given
what is awarded every week in the PL... thought Pawson had a
very good game.

Mostly well officiated game, I thought Fabinho was lucky not to
be sent off for kicking the back of Cavani's leg though.

I am not a fan of Pawson by any stretch of the imagination but
my my my what a transformation today kept in the background and
let the game flow he appeared very confident got everything spot
on
is it just me or when Pawson thinks no foul he has started
raising his hand and wagging his hand or finger very much like
Felix Brych I don’t recall Pawson doing it before today’s game (
not a criticism just an observation ) but if he continues to
perform like he did yesterday he will certainly make a fan of
his

A really entertaining match aided by an extremely competent
performance from Craig Pawson who appeared to have an authority
about him which I had not seen before. Nailed on for the Final
now I would say ( probably the kiss of death to his appointment
! )

Like others I suspect, I've watched a few pretty dire PL games
this season, but yesterday I saw two really enjoyable cup ties
between Brentford and Leicester City for which I was a neutral;
and then United v Liverpool when I was from from neutral! Both
in my view were well refereed and I was particularly pleased to
see Craig Pawson put in a good performance. As mentioned by
dave26, I'd never found him completely convincing but since the
covid break last season he seems to have developed noticeably in
both confidence and authority.
My only reservation about Pawson being appointed for the Cup
Final is if it's another occasion with no crowd and without the
full ceremony. If they were to decide on a referee who'd
already had a Final, I did wonder about Mike Dean, bearing in
mind his disappointment when taken off the Liverpool final and
the fact he is also having a good season.
