Jon Moss/Darren Cann/VAR

Well it's time for VAR to go.. How the hell they have allowed
that Manchester City goal to stand is beyond me and it's an
awful call from Darren Cann. They've ruined the game. Peter
Walton is spot on. That's just unacceptable.

That isn't offside, and hasn't been for a few years. It would
only be offside if the ball deflected off Mings, as soon as he
makes a controlled touch offside is reset. I don't really like
the law, but it is what it is.

Are you for real? Under the laws of the game, it's a clear
advantage coming back from an offside position. It's appalling
and Walton summed it up perfectly. it's more rubbish from VAR

That is a load of rubbish and you know it! Rodri has interfered
with an opponent by being in offside position. It doesn’t matter
whether Mings has controlled it or not.
Absolutely ludicrous - it’s an easy decision for an assistant at
any level of football, but then VAR to not even look at it. I am
absolutely distraught for Villa who have deserved at least a
draw!
We all know the comments on here if it was a certain Liverpool
club or a different Manchester club.
And to compound it even more he gives a penalty in injury time
for handball.
Time for VAR TO GO!!
I am sick to death of talking about decisions which are being
made but then technology which has been brought in to correct
such inaccuracies can’t even get a basic decision correct!

Correct decision. Like it or lump it, the law is clear.

What chance do us mere mortals have when a former Premier League
Referee and professional pundit says that is offside yet
@rustyref (who I believe is still a current referee and around
level 3) gives an opposing opinion?

Explain how. For it to be interfering with an opponent Rodri
would have had to prevent Mings from playing the ball, he
didn't. It can't be gaining an advantage as the law is clear
that that is only for a deflection or save and, specifically
says that a player cannot be considered to have gained an
advantage if a defender has deliberately played the ball, which
Mings very clearly did. Specific part of law of below.
A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an
opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by
deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an
advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent.
It would have been offside before the law was changed, but it
can't be now, as the Premier League have just clarified and
Peter Walton has had to eat his words and agree that the
decision was correct.

Yes the law is clear - they got it wrong
"interfering with an opponent by:
preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the
ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or
challenging an opponent for the ball or
clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this
action impacts on an opponent or
making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of
an opponent to play the ball"
Point number 2 above - clearly outlines what happened

No because he only challenged the opponent for the ball after
Mings had controlled it.
I don't like the law, especially as someone who used to play
central defence, but that just isn't offside anymore.
