The FIFA Referees Committee has announced the match officials
who will be in charge at the forthcoming FIFA Club World Cup
Qatar 2020™.
Seven referees and 12 assistant referees have been selected for
the tournament and, together with them, FIFA has also selected
seven video match officials (VMOs) to operate the VAR during the
tournament.
The appointment of the female trio led by Edina Alves Batista
continue the path started at the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017,
where Swiss referee Esther Staubli officiated one game, followed
by Uruguayan referee Claudia Umpierrez who officiated two games
at the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019.
All of the selected match officials will complete their final
preparations in Qatar the week before the first match kicks off.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, FIFA and the host country
will provide the required safeguards to protect the health and
safety of all involved in the competition.
The draw to finalise the detailed pairings will take place in
Zurich on 19 January at 16:00 CET.
The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020™ will take place in Doha
between 1 and 11 February 2021. The final will be played at the
Education City Stadium on 11 February.

Interesting possibilities for the remaining appointments. Given
that there are 7 referees & 7 games, will FIFA be "brave" enough
to appoint the female trio to a meaningful game - my fear is
that they'll be appointed to the 5th/6th game but I would hope
that FIFA will appoint them to the Bayern Munich "semi". There
have been snide comments in other forums about the
competence/ability of the Tahiti referee who apparently referees
mainly in lower levels of the French league system - so perhaps
he'll be assigned to 4th official duties & one referee will end
up with 2 games.
Assuming that FIFA appoint from "neutral" federations &/or
ensure that no referee meets the same team twice, I predict
after the initial appointments of Mex v Kor - URU & EGY v QAT -
GUA the games will be
loser of MEX/KOR v loser of EGY/QAT (5th v 6th) - TAH
BRZ v winner of MEX/KOR - NED
GER v winner of EGY/QAT - BRZ
3rd place - SEN
Final - UAE
I'm sure that there'll be political games behind the scenes!
(nearly all) the games will be live on BBC1.

If FIFA remain with usual convention then I think your
predictions will be spot on.
None of the referees is that well known (outside their own
confederation) so an opportunity for all.
In some ways you would like to see the Asian/African officials
used on the Semi Finals but as it is so often that the South
American and European teams make the final, it makes sense to
use their officials in the SFs.
Can hardly appoint on merit if your first game is the 3rd place
play off!

During last edition, the Qatari referee Al-Jassim handled the
final without any previous game :) All politics!

I think that FIFA is already brave enough to appoint the female
trio to a men's tournament. She should be appointed to the 5th
place match as a safe choice. And honestly after seeing her on
the WWC on 2019, I believe that 5th game match is the only
option.
