Not saying you are wrong but we have seen less so called clear
and obvious errors referred to the screen.

It wasnt the farce that another posted has stated, but on close
examination i beg to differ, pogba appears to clip his right leg
With his left clue yellow boot not white. Whether the arm was
enough of a pull back from luiz i am not sure, very soft. Oliver
was in a great position and i dont blame him at all but the var
seemed to complete his check very quickly. As dean smith said it
looked a penalty all day long on first sighting, but one of the
latter replays from the stand looking down the penalty area
appeared to show otherwise. Perhaps the var didnt have That
angle available at the time.

A very good post claretman. I disagree with you but what I will
say is that Oliver thinks it is a penalty on his first viewing
and instinct and who is to argue with that?

Couldnt agree with you more on olivers decision on first viewing
and instinct.
I disagree on this occasion with the var, whom i would say didnt
review thoroughly.

I maybe looking at this through claret tinted eyes, but i am
usually the first to back the referee when in the crowd.

In the first half he deemed a similar pull back by Shaw on
Traore outside the box to be a foul (although he should then
have booked Traore for his dive in the area).

Pogba's fall seemed to be caused by him catching the back of his
own leg; whether this was self inflicted, caused by Luiz or the
result of a simple coming together is difficult to say from the
clip I've seen. In general however, my comment on what I have
seen this season is that the Laws no longer give an adequate
definition of a foul and it becomes, effectively, "if the
referee thinks it's a foul then it's a foul". VAR seems more
like a toss of a coin as to whether to intervene or not but with
some referees they seem to lose the coin.

Pogba actually kicks his own calf!! This is a shambles of a
decision, an absolute shambles.

A former international referee, not averse to criticising
current officials has a different opinion to you. I think
readers may take your posts more seriously if you were not so
dogmatic with your views. It is allowed to differ you know.
@RefereeHalsey gives his view on Manchester United’s penalty

Irishref1985, as Matic came on as a sub. I'd be surprised if it
was his tenth foul. It was at least his third however and he
could have been carded for a previous foul in its own right.
McTominay could have had a YC first half for 4 fouls but he was
wisely substituted as he was playing badly anyway.
I thought Grealish was superb for Villa, and frankly must be a
nightmare for referees. You could argue he is unfairly targeted
and referees should take
appropriate action sooner. On the other hand, he is in
possession so much and is such a tricky player he is going to be
fouled a lot. Then again, referees may be thinking to what
extent is Grealish initiating or exaggerating contact to win
free kicks from which Villa can be so dangerous.
That said, I'm disappointed my team conceded 22 fouls to Villa's
10 and had 4 YCs and Villa none. That's not a criticism of
Oliver whose foul detection was fine I thought, although I agree
one or two cards might have been produced earlier. Some of the
fouls were tactical or even cynical, but others frankly were
just very poor attempts to challenge and tackle properly. And
it's something United need to do something about. Clocking up
YCs can come back to bite if key players start to get
suspensions.

I wonder if you’ll be commenting on a “shambolic” decision by
Coote to award a pen for Spurs. Or maybe not because it’s gone

Might he have done so if it had happened at the other end? Just
asking what I am sure some of us may be feeling.
The gods are certainly favouring Utd this season - penalty after
time v Brighton, 98th min winner v Wolves and a few other 50/50
decisions.
