I wonder if the lack of fans has any impact on referee
decisions? It obviously doesn't make a pitch playable but some
of the wider concerns about fan safety/experience aren't so
relevant and the desire to give fans, especially away ones
travelling a long distance, notice is not such a big issue so
perhaps a referee might be slightly more willing to give a game
a chance.

Possibly but there were Harrogate fans in attendance at their
game.

Worst thing is - Harrogate were forced to pay a £200,000 bill in
the summer ripping up their 3G pitch to put a natural grass one
back in on the orders of the EFL.

officials) for a postponed match and that for an abandoned one ?
Not suggesting any impropriety - just curious !

Brings back memories of the odd occasions grimsby played
northern intermediate league games at blundell park,
They usually played at the now cleethorpes town fc ground on
cleethorpes rd, For a short guy i was always knee deep in mud on
the line at the findus stand side of the ground.
That stand was aptly named, most people froze in that stand esp
in a ne gale off the sea.

I was only ever involved in two abandoned matches and in each
case, the full match fee and expenses were paid willingly. I can
remember travelling to Welling as Linesman for a game and, on
reaching the ground, being advised that the pitch was unplayable
and the game had been postponed. We received our expenses as the
club was unable to prevent us from travelling (pre-mobile phone
days) but not our match fees. I don't ever recall being paid for
local league games which I postponed in advance following a
pitch inspection.

Postponed - mileage + half fee
Abandoned - full fee + mileage

Postponed - mileage + half fee
Abandoned - full fee + mileage

I don't know about FL but In most of my leagues a postponed game
is half fee with full expenses. A Abandoned game is full fee and
full expenses.
