Anthony Taylor, Villa v Palace

I thought Anthony had a reasonable game today, and that despite
the result for this disappointed Palace fan. Red card was
correct, although it was good that the Beeb clarified at half
time that the second yellow had already been shown before the
cameras cut to Taylor who was showing what looked like a
straight red, which it definitely wasn't. It grieves me to say
it but Taylor was also correct not to go along with VAR Craig
Pawson and award Palace a penalty in the first half. It was not
a penalty in my view and certainly not a clear and obvious
error, and that, again in my view, is what the monitor and
sensible refereeing are all about. Another shambolic display
from the Palace, but I can't blame Anthony for that.

Agreed, he's one of my least favourites for sure but today
showed what a good referee he can be. Managed very well
throughout and key decisions correct from him. Heads up on
Palace though my friend - was only 2 weeks ago you hammered my
team Spurs and came away with a well-earned draw before doing
the same at West Ham despite being unfairly down to 10 for so
long. You'll be fine and are usually a good watch despite the
limited budget :)

Have to agree with you acme thunderer, stupid and hot headed of
mings to get involved for the first yellow
And certainly the second caution was warranted.
Also agree that taylor was correct to stick with his original
decision of no penalty when reviewing at the screen.
The amount of time it took for the var to advise him to go to
the screen to review in the first place screamed of
Not sure therefore No obvious error.
Ward was lucky not to get a second yellow in the late stages of
the game, otherwise mr taylor handled the game very well indeed.
As for palace you probably played better against a full
compliment, than against 10.
Fine margins in the first half and had martinez not made a great
save in the early stages things could have been different. I am
sure palace will be ok this season.

Disappointed with Dean Smith's comments as quoted on the BBC
website:

First caution was absolutely justified for the thigh-high
challenge Mings made on Zaha from behind to which Zaha reacted,
while the second caution was nailed-on too, for impeding Zaha
with contact to deny a promising attack. Whether you feel the
initial challenge by Zaha on Mings was a foul or not (which from
memory I would argue it wasn't), I don't think any fair-minded
person could call the yellow card "soft".

Do you not consider that beginning a post by saying that an
official is one of your least favourites suggests a prejudicial
perspective which may possibly devalue any evaluation, positive
or otherwise, of that officials performances?

Was trying to watch this and the Fulham match at the same time,
but when I caught up with this match later, I thought Taylor put
in a very good performance here. He managed the game well, with
all the cautions given correctly, and absolutely no complaints
about either of the yellow cards for Mings leading to his red
card. Was also pleased to see him go against VAR on the penalty
call, as it was blatantly not a clear and obvious error.

Quite a bit of my life has been taken up with prosecution and
defence and hopefully through that contention justice emerges. I
believe you are one of Anthony Taylor's stoutest defenders (
whether he is right or wrong on certain occasions I think ) and
so it may fall to another to prosecute. It's only those setting
themselves up as judges who need to be impartial. It could be
argued that declaring a prior position is a truthful way to
proceed in that what is read may be viewed through the
particular light which the poster has already shed on their
words.

For what it's worth, I thought Taylor had a very decent match
thus showing the fine performance of which he is capable.

As a fervent Palace fan, I was grieved that Anthony made the
correct decision on the penalty incident. I think I would have
felt embarrassed had he given the penalty.
