G M Jarvis later moved to Bromley and in the 1964 electoral
register at 24 Hillcrest Road (the address in the relevant
Southern League yearbooks although he had retired by then) he is
shown as George.

There is a nice piece about George Jarvis in the Hastings and St
Leonard's Observer for 6 April 1957 which can be seen on the BNA
website, marking his retirement and describing him as the best
referee to be seen at Hastings' Southern League matches in those
days. He was also once invited to speak to the Bedford Town
supporters' club, a rare thing for those days.

Found another one-Alfred A J Baker of 85 Cornwall Road, Ruislip
according to the 1955 Voters List.

An excellent find of an elusive man
Alfred Adolphus J Baker
born Bristol Q4 1902
no sign of a marriage
or even of his demise
Also found one of the 6 missing post war refs
A.Ward, is in fact A.A.T. Ward
Albert Alphonso Thomas Ward
He sometimes switched his 2nd & 3rd forenames
born Dursley Glos Q3 1907
md 1934 & died 1968, both Bristol

Alfred Baker's wife (presumably) in the list in 1955 is shown as
Catherine. Also at the address was one Eugene John O'Callaghan-a
lodger or an in-law? (see

Presumably an in-law, as A A Baker married Catherine O'Callaghan
in Willesden in 1940.

I believe J Hunt of Glossop is called James but I haven’t found
anything on the web that confirms it yet. I’ll have a look
through the local archives

You are right ..... and maybe wrong!!!
There were two J. Hunt's in Derbyshire in the early 50's
James W. "Jim" Hunt was in Matlock and later became a F.L.
referee and moved to Portsmouth
The other one that I am chasing lived in Glossop, did not
progress beyond F.L. line level, and had no second initial
Any help much appreciated
